F Sport config & "high friction" parts
I was trying to understand the differences in brake options Lexus offers by looking up the OEM parts on Sewells. Apparently a bad idea, here's what I saw on their website:
Front shim kits differ between IS250 regular and F Sport (as does the fitting kit but I think pricing is screwed up on the fitting kit. It shows F Sport fitting kit is $58.26 but for regular IS250 is $16.23). Front pad sets do not differentiate between regular IS250 and F Sport. However on the F Sport IS350, they do differentiate, showing a cheaper part number for the F Sport (one might expect the opposite). In all cases they show a photo of the same Toyota pad kit. Rear brake pads show as same part regardless of IS250/350, F Sport or regular. So, I will assume Sewell just isn't selling many brake parts for these cars yet and thus has not been faced with sorting out the mess.
My questions are -- what exactly are the differences between the brakes on the IS250 F Sport versus regular? The Lexus website configurator mentions "high friction brake pads" for both F Sport version of the vehicle and I'm trying to figure out what this will mean to brake wear. Is it likely that these pads would wear faster (or put more wear on rotors) than the brakes on the regular 2nd gen IS250 given equal driving (relatively non-spirited most of the time). I know higher friction implies better performance, but I'm trying to estimate longevity rather than stopping performance.

There should be a bit more brake wear to pads and rotors and a bit more dust. Exactly how much more will not be known for several years when we have our 3GIS users who have used up all of their brakes and can estimate the differences.

I got my Fsport pads from the dealership for around 80 bucks, they kept bringing the pads for a regular IS 350, the package was identical. So don't be alarmed by the packaging being all the same.
