Engine noise in 2014 is 350 f sport at idle
just bought a 2014 is 350 with f sport package. previously had 2011 is 250. i notice more engine noise, like a rumble or slight knocking at idle. service tells me this is normal for the 350 engine and the same engine in the new gs. anyone have any experience/comment on this? my 250 was very quiet. the new is 350 is still quiet but there is discernible engine noise at idle. thanks in advance.

Yes, it is normal. I checked other 350's in my dealer's lot and they do the same thing. My car idles a bit higher when first started on a cold day. Once the engine warms up, everything is nice and smooth.

Compared to the 2011 TL I just got rid of the 350 rattles and has a good tick at idle. I'm told its normal so Im trying to ignore it. I had a 2008 TL Type S and that car pinged like hell on hard acceleration but was never an issue. I think it falls under the dealer classification of TMDT. that model does that.

Coming out of many years of BMWs I had the same concern. I raised the ticking noise at idle to the dealer and they say it's part of the direct injection and is normal.

I experienced this ticking in my 2004 IS300 as well but once the car warmed up it would stop.
My 2014 350 f sport begins ticking more once the car has been idling for over a minute after initial start up. The ticking becomes louder with the AC on. Definitely something I'm learning to live with. Extremely happy with the 350 otherwise

I was very concerned with the engine noise the first time I started my car on a cold day. The dealer reassured me it was normal for direct-injection to make a little more noise and after listening to other 350's on the lot I was convinced it was the case. Either that or all the 3IS motors are broken haha...

i know what i am going to do: I've had lexus vehicles since 2000, albeit ls' i won't get another lexus. Lexus saying that this is "normal" is pure bull****. They built an inferior engine. Period. Not excuses.
