Default Suspension and Display Problems with the 2014 IS250 F Sport - Inputs appreciated

I have a 2014 IS 250 F Sport and in less than 500 miles, the car has this "LOUD" clunking/thumping noise coming from the rear when I pass a bump or uneven road. Brought it back to the dealership but the Lexus specialist/technicians said this noise is the characteristic of the vehicle which of course it cannot be a characteristic of the vehicle. This is not the 1st Lexus vehicle I own. Anyhow, no one has been able to correct this problem nor Lexus corporate had issued any bulletin on this matter.

Has anyone experience this same problem??

Also, has your navigation/radio shuts off while the car is in motion? Has anyone seen their dashboard just turns dark (completely blackout) while the car is in motion??

My 250 F-Sport does "bottom-out" and makes a solid, quick "one-thump" noise (not clunking or rattling) over a harsh bump or pothole. Is this what you hear?

I consider that "normal" with the F-Sport suspension, but I never experienced that in my 2IS and I'm curious if 350 F-Sport or any non-F-Sport 3IS owners experience the same. I suspect for the latter owners, they don't since the shocks/coils are more compliant.

My RX F-Sport does not make the thump, nor has my CT (non-F-Sport) and past RXs but those vehicles were so soft I can't even begin to compare...

corradoMR2, yes, it makes a thump noise on uneven surfaces and not necessary harsh pumps or pothole. i've driven the regular 2014 IS 250 and it doesn't seem to make the same noise. i had several Lexus technicians inspected the car and they are all in agreement that this thumping/clunking noise is unusual. I'm also curious if it is just the F-Sport suspension but with all the master techs checked my car, this is not a suspension issue.

right now i'm not so sure what to do with the vehicle.

^^^ Let's get some more feedback from other 3IS members, especially F-Sport members, before further action.

For the record, mine is AWD and yours RWD? Don't believe this will make a difference since the suspension is identical for both.

My 350 F-Sport RWD makes this thump. It sounds like it usually happens on the right rear, but I'm not 100% certain.

try engaging the emergency brake for a little. if you don't use it when the vehicle is new ive heard others on the forum say they get a clanking sound. try engaging it when your parked for a new days. not being engaged may have it loose. at least that's what ive seen throughout the forum

This sounds similar to others who had this issue and solved it by setting the parking brake line by having it engaged for few hours. You can search for this thread and give this a try to see if it resolves it.

^^^ I've done the parking brake procedure Day 1 I got the car and a few times after that and I don't believe that is the noise. If the OP has the same noise as mine, it literally sounds like the suspension bottoms out, noise generated from the springs having no travel left, resulting in the chassis to absorb the impact (and thus generating the thump).

Do any of you experience this?

BTW, for me at least, it is consistent on big bumps and potholes for both front and rear suspensions, hence why I'm convinced it's the suspension travel (or lack thereof in these driving conditions). Maybe we're talking different concerns here.

If all the bolts are tight, then it is the e-brake hub. Have your dealer grease it. Mine had the same clunk over bumps, they greased it and it hasn't come back yet and it's been almost a year.

I have used the emergency brake almost everyday. I park on a steep ramp where I work so the brake has to be engaged. I do believe this is a suspension or possibly design flaw on the F Sport. Like I mention in earlier threads, that noise occurs not in harsh bumps or large potholes. In my car, it happens on uneven surfaces/pavements.

Also, has anyone experienced the NAV-Radio turns off while the car is motion? My NAV-radio has the latest firmware updated and it blacked out on me. Then a sudden blackout of the dash(tach) too while the car is in motion? This just happen to me two days ago while I was driving and thought the car would stall when the entire panel blackout.

'14 AWD IS 350 here. Have the same noise, exactly as you describe it in both character and circumstance. Have been setting the e-brake, no improvement.

I seem to recall a couple threads on this subforum talking about it being related to some of the ebrake hardware, and a simple fix at the dealer, but can't remember the specifics. I think quite a few folks have noticed it and had it fixed.

I took it to 2 separate Lexus dealership for the techs to inspect the vehicle. No solution or fix has worked so far. I've even contacted Lexus Corporate and it looks like they have no fix on this issue either. Just very annoying on knowing and hearing this thump/clunk each time I'm driving the car. I'm in the Northeast and it's very difficult to avoid uneven roads.

Has anyone reached out to Lexus Corporate to let them know about the issue with the '14 IS F Sport?

My base 250 clunks too. I've tried setting the parking braking repeatedly and it didn't 't fix this issue. I've come to the conclusion it's temperate dependent. When temps were in the 50's or lower my suspension clunked. When the temps rose again into the 70's and 80's the clunk stopped. Just the other day the temps were 57 degrees in the morning and the clunk reappeared. I think it has something to do with the rubber bushings in the suspension that quell NVH. In colder temps they harden up and that's when the suspension clunks.. I wonder if Lexus is even looking into this. Clunking in 40k car isn't acceptable.

Hi obscene14, my car started the clunking noise at 500 miles. I've been driving my car since Nov and been in the dealership twice to have this service. No tech was able to resolve this. It's very unusual and quite unacceptable consider my car is brand new and currently less than 2K miles on it. I've reached out to Lexus Corp in California but no updates have been provided. Just looking to see if anyone else has this experience and if anyone else contacted Lexus Corporate.
