Apples and Oranges - different AWD systems and transmissions made by different companies.

That's your choice, but what does the ZF in a FWD or a RWD car have to do with it fitting in an AWD 3IS?

Mrraider: As others have said, our cars do not use ZF transmissions.

This is how the ZF 8-speed (roughly) works: ZF has what they call an 8-speed kit. It's the guts -- a collection of gears, shafts, electronics, etc., and they have a few different varieties depending on the power the transmission should handle. If a manufacturer wants an 8-speed from ZF, they design a new case to bolt up to that engine, pick the correct 8-speed guts, and dump them into the case. Then the programming is written or tailored by the manufacturer for shift feel and for the shift logic to match the "character" of the engine.

These kits can be adapted for RWD or FWD applications, but it doesn't mean that any of these ZF transmissions are "the same." You're not going to take the ZF 8-speed from the Grand Cherokee and bolt it into a BMW 3-series, for example.

The 8-speed possibly doesnt fit in the AWD models because the nature of Toyota's particular AWD system makes space around the transmission tight.

Do you have a picture of your transmission labels or a link to that information? As far as I know only the 8-speed DIRECT SHIFT transmission on the RWD IS350 F Sport has Sport + for USA.

I've owned both 350's. They both have Sport+

It's right on the Lexus web site.

http://www.lexus.com/models/IS/features/

Exclusively on the IS 350 F SPORT rear–wheel drive and all–wheel drive models, Drive Mode Select with ECO, Normal, Sport S and Sport S+ modes enables you to make your vehicle more responsive or efficient with the simple turn of the switch.

You're right. I thought it was RWD only.

The packages and options, in all of these configurations, can be easily confused. It's not at all straightforward.
