Vinyl Wrap or Paint for the Roof
I have a ultra white 350 and I would like to do a gloss black roof. I am just not sure which way to go. For vinyl I was quoted $450 to do the wrap and $1000.00 for paint. I just wanted to know what you guys thought about each one and prices that you were quoted / paid to have your done.
Also what are the draw backs to have black gloss vinyl ?
I have gtechniq on my car and I am sure that I will have to get it removed.

I did the gloss black vinyl including the shark fin and it's my vote overall. It's of course less expensive but also less durable than paint. I don't EVER take it to any car wash to not risk high-pressure water grabbing onto any vinyl edge and loosening the adhesion.

Wow that looks amazing on the blue. I only hand wash my car due to how inferior the paint is when it comes to scratches and chips. Do you have a lot of micro scratches on the vinyl ?

^^^ Yeah very happy with the look. One downside with vinyl is from the moment of installation you will see some very fine scratches which were there from Day 1, but only from about 1 foot away and if you really are looking for them. If the installers are professionals (more so than mine were), their tools (i.e. squeegee) should not introduce the fine scratches.
As far as maintenance goes, I waxed it once and the process and result (shine) is just like applying it on paint.
A drawback on vinyl is it will fade faster than paint especially if constantly exposed to the sun, but if you're careful with the washing and maintain it like you would paint, it should last you 5-7 years versus 3-4 years if neglected. Mine so far looks brand new (minus the very fine scratches) and that's after 6 months and through a harsh winter so far.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

In my opinion, vinyl would be best that way you can always go back to stock if you decide to sell or trade in your car.. I got quoted $250 and will be doing it within the next 2 weeks.

Vinyl would be the way to go and that is coming from someone who installs it every day for a living. $450 is really steep on pricing, I would look elsewhere, normal prices are between $175 and $250 mark depending on where you go. The Lexus roof is easy so it shouldn't take an experienced installer any longer then an hour and a half - 2 hours. As said before, take care of it and it will last and once its set after 1-2 days of being installed it looks really good. Go for it!

on my speed 3 I had the door handles, mirrors, hood intake, and spoiler all wrapped from a shop that on reviews says sometimes overcharges for like 200 and some bucks. Pretty sure they only quoted the roof about 150 or so. $450 for a roof rap is outrageous.

Are there any other disadvantages of the vinyl wrap?
