Just add a 10" JL sub and amp and VOILA you have a nice sounding system.

Any thoughts on whether something like the JBL MS8 or the Alpine PXA H800 would help spruce up the non ML system?

Just add a 10" JL sun with space saver box and a small JL amp. I had a thread on it about 5 months ago. Makes the stock system come alive and you won't have to waste money on the ML.

Just added an Alpine PDX 1.1000 and a pair of Arc Audio 12" to my NON-ML . I used an Audio Control LC2i tapped off the signal of the OEM sub. The LC2 has some bass boost adjustments to blend the front stage and the sub. Drove around for a couple of hours running errands, making minor adjustments every time I stopped. Pretty happy with the results. The stock speakers with the added subs sounds better than some of other cars that had full systems installs that I have heard. The imaging could be better, but the best $600 I have ever spent on car audio.

This is the new piece from Audio control. Gives time delay for better imaging

If there's a better system available I will always pay for it, especially with a lease. Just got my IS after 3 1/2 years with a TL and the ELS system in that car was great! The Mark Levinson I have now is just as good or better.

I just added the JL Audio CS110TG-TW3 Sealed PowerWedge™ enclosure with one 10" TW3 subwoofer and Kenwood Excelon X500-1 (500w at 2ohm with 1000w peak). Really made a nice improvement to the stock system. I decided the main problem with the stock system is the lack of a subwoofer level control. All of my cars with a factory subwoofer have had a way to control the level of the sub until this one. Bad planning on their part. BTW, the Kenwood amp was not my first choice but it was the only amp of that size that would fit beneath the left back trunk floor cover. Very nice place to put an amp for it is completely hidden. It sounds great!! hope this helps.

Myself, and a friend of mine (Who used to be pretty big into automotive audio) are both very impressed with the stock system. I have no reason to ask for anything more, everything is crisp and I find the tones to be exactly where I like them.

I just got my car on Friday, and thankfully I have a sub and amp from my old Camaro that I can put in to give this car some punch! The box I have I built specifically to fit in the trunk of the Camaro, off to the side and out of the way. Given that this car is a lease, I don't really want to spend that time again so I'm hoping someone comes out with a nice looking box that will fit in the trunk out of the way.

My initial opinion is that the system sounds good when you don't add any bass in the tone controls, but as soon as you do it gets all muddy. I'm hoping a 10" sub set with an appropriate crossover and gain tied into the existing sub's wiring will give me what I'm looking for. I'm all about clean sound, the music I listen to isn't always bass heavy, I just like to have that extra kick.

Where do you place the sub? In the bottom of the trunk? Because my audio installer says that the trunk is "sealed" and the sub will not work... And he doesn't want to install the sub in that way. He says that only a sub like this, placed under the passenger seat, will work:

Is it right?
My IS has stock audio and no sub...
