Need help with ordering some touchup paint
Hey guys I'm ordering some touch up paint for my UW IS. On Sewell it has two options for the ultra white color. It says ultra white (F-Sport) and then ultra white basecoat. What's the difference? Is the basecoat the same as the clear coat? Also if it's not where can I get some touch up clear coat as well? Or does lexus have it's own type. Thanks for any help!

I'm just going to pick up some in the next week or so from the parts department at my local dealer. I'll let you know what they say.

Ok JDR76 let us know. And I'm considering strongly using doctor colorchip after watching all these youtube videos. It seems to work very well on white cars and seems pretty fool proof. Does anyone have experience with it?

I have used Dr Color Chip on numerous cars, including flat, metalic, and pearl paints and they have always worked great and matched perfect. I checked the site and I did not see an option for UW. The only white is saw was for the Starfire Pearl. You can get your paint code, send it to them and they will make it at no extra cost than the normal. I think their systems are easier to use than what the dealers offer, and the kits always include a lot more paint.

I bought the touch-up paints from sewell, both the basecoat and the clearcoat which is what they are. Had a nick on the passenger's side rear panel, which is very prone to rock chips, and just applied the basecoat and clearcoat last. Now you can't tell the difference, really works well, I highly recommend it for those small nicks.

Never used that Dr Chp thing before but it has a "Nova Pearl White" listed on their website. Uses the code 83 which matches up with the code in that forum post doodlebug linked though I'd definitely want to confirm before buying it.
I'd probably be more tempted to buy both bottles from Sewell instead, or from the dealership if they carry both.

Yeah Ill call them later. The only reason I may opt for the dr colorchip is that I feel like id screw up with the touch up paint and apply to much making it more noticeable than before. Especially with the clear coat At least with the dr colorchip I can wipe off the excess paint. Also they claim their paint will shine with the rest of the car and blend in.

I think the reason there is two kinds is because one of them is a primary paint and the other is a secondary. Since UW is technically a 3 staged white, it has to be applied with 2 separate bottles of touch up paint. I do not have any experience with it but you can ask your dealer. I bought one of the two and it was gray so I assumed you needed both.

I can't imagine how you're expected to get two coats into a paint chip? Usually, one tiny blob of any paint will it completely.
I've got the top coat, as per the link
