Default The F-Sport Rear BBK Fitment Saga !!!

A while ago, I ordered both a front and rear F-Sport BBK for my 2014 IS350 from Sewell. One of my buddies and I decided to tackle the install. We did the fronts first, which fit perfectly...then a few days later attempted the rears. Obviously without knowing, we assumed the 06-13 brackets would fit...but didn't because the hub and caliper are different. After doing some digging, I realized that the OEM caliper was the same as the 2013 GS350, so I called Stop Tech and ordered the rear brackets for their BBK for that car, which was also an ST40 caliper. I figured this was bound to work...and it did. The bracket lined up perfectly with the hub, so naturally we assumed that this was it. However, later that day I got a call from my friend who said it when he mounted everything up, the pad was not catching the rotor 100%. So this is what we were left with..

After measuring, we broke down the numbers and realized that we need to have a new set of brackets machined. During this time, another forum member, afdavey, contacted me about any issues with the install since he had ordered the kit for his 2014 as well. So we sought out to get these new brackets made.

Finally after waiting a couple weeks for the shop to custom make 2 sets, for a pretty penny, I picked them up on Tuesday and they work flawlessly. They are much better then even the original set, quality wise. This is what we got !! ( I know the left rotor is on the right side...my mistake when I put it on to test )

If anyone out there is interested getting a set of brackets for the rears, PM either afdavey or I and we'll hook you up. Just wanted to share this cool project with you guys : ) Happy New Year!

DexRox512 was on a mission... very persistent to get them to work. His efforts paid off! The shiny one is the one machined to fit...

How much did you pay for the entire brake kit? And how do you tell whether or not the pad is touching the rotor 100%? I have never done any modifications before. My concern is that a bad installation will be a safety issue.

The rear BBK from Sewell Lexus caters to the CL with a discount that you need to register for. Once you register, as you shop while logged in the 'discounted' prices are shown. If you go to their website without loggin' - you will see the normal everyday price posted. I purchased the front / rear BBK's on a 'black friday' special - I believe the regular price for the rear is approx. $2,500. - you can check for yourself. The front BBK is in the neighbor hood of $3,000.

As for the fit - the caliper actually seats the pads - the bracket mod allowed the caliper to sit closer / lower to the hub so the brake pads have the proper surface contact on the rotor face.
The modified bracket was made from high quality aircraft grade aluminum (the original bracket was also aluminum). Stop Tech was also contacted and provided 'clearance' measurements which were used and verified on our final fit. The process was a trial / error. The Machinist had 1x, we had 2x. Each time it involved shaving additional material.

The bracket was designed to mimic the latest gen GS bracket, as the IS rear brakes carry the latest gen GS brake set-up. The GS brackets bolted up to the hub but the caliper then sat to high (see pics posted earlier in thread). From there, it was just determining the 'drop' / amount to lower the caliper to have it seat properly. As mentioned, The Stop Tech spec helped verify we were on the money.

I'm not foolish nor a first time modder - if this was not going to be safe, it would not be going on the vehicle.

As you may be aware, Stop Tech makes the BBK for Lexus. I believe in time the kit will include a bracket that bolts right up to install the rear caliper. There is no issue with the front installation with the kit offered. Both will work with factory 18"wheels.
Unfortunately, myself and another forum member were led to believe the rear kit was a direct bolt on and had been verified by Sewell. Needless to say, there were a lot of apologies and customer service shown. Sewell did the right thing given the circumstance!
Sewell was pretty good about handling this as our misfortune had them pull the kit from their website for the 2014 IS 350 model.

It's not the cost of the bracket that will stop most folks moving with the BBK for the 2014 IS, it's the $5,000. ish for the BBK's....

Of course any bad mechanical work will be a safety issue. Any kind of poor install, whether it's an exhaust, an alternator or a set of brakes will cause an issue, but as long as you trust the mechanics skill then you'll be fine. The parts that you would be installing are as good if not better then OEM. Especially our bracket...

I'll post a picture below of behind the caliper where you can see that the pad is flush with the rotor 100%.
