Default why does my GS sound more sporty than my IS?

I've heard it from several places and even my own car.
we have had a 2013 GS F sport for the past 9 months.
the intake resonator makes the car sound very aggressive like there is a V8 under the hood.

the IS has the exact same engine, same intake, same resonator and i am sure a little less sound absorption built into the car, so why is the sound in the GS interior easily 2-3 times as loud under acceleration?
i don't get it, the GS supposed to be the luxury oriented car, the IS the more sporty luxury sedan. you would think the IS would have the engine growl, not the GS.
if anyone can figure out why this is i would really appreciate it.
thanks!

I will second this. My GS is also louder and the sound is much deeper than in my IS. As Bass Mech said the GS sounds like a V8 while the IS sounds more like a high pitched v6. My thoughts are either that this is because of the different transmissions (6 speed vs 8 speed) or that the dash material and design is different from one another and this effects the delivery of the intake sound ? Thoughts?

I wonder if they sound the same from the outside of each vehicle...?

I've heard a GS350 F Sport at full noise tearing down the street and it sounded unreal for a factory spec luxury car.

It also sounded just as good when travelling inside it too.

I'm hoping my IS350 F Sport sounds the same!

Glad the IS is this quiet. The sound coming from the ML is undisturbed.

The resonator is on all 350s, not just F Sports.

Just to be clear it's an "Intake Sound Creator"...

"Bash Mech", the difference your hearing is from the exhaust side...

Mine are both stock also, but I think he is suggesting the systems are different.
Does anyone know if there are different mufflers it anything else different as far as exhaust?

Ah gotcha my bad. I had assumed that you installed a "Joe Z" exhaust. So maybe the faux tips give us more noise?! Looking forward to finding out more info.

Well the Airbox, Intake & Sound Creator are the same in both new IS & GS models.

The exhaust characteristics are different for sure..!!

I haven't dug up any technical info on the 2014 IS Mufflers, but I do know they are smaller than the 2013 & 2014 GS350 mufflers..

The new GS mufflers have been also characterized as "Sportier" sounding than the previous generations.

Which I can confirm..

Interesting! I am thinking the 2014 IS now has a less restrictive exhaust as well though ?!

well i swapped intakes front eh GS and IS and there was no difference whatsoever, they are in fact the same part!
so that leaves exhaust. strange though i definitely hear the growl from under the hood not in the rear of the car.
does anyone have aftermarket exhaust that can verify swapping it out makes a difference?
