Question for anyone with PCS or radar cruise control.
ive come to the understanding that you cannot use a radar detector in a car with this feature because the radar detector will just end up alerting to the radar all the time.
I thought I read somewhere that you can turn the PCS off with a button located under the dash.
if you don't have PCS can someone at least read the owners manuel and let me know if it is possible to turn the radar cruise and pre collision system off if I don't need it?

PCS can be turned of with the button under the steering wheel.
Not sure about the radar cruise control tho. I have not seen any option to turn this of while using the cruise control. However it is turned of when you are not using the cruise control.
They opperate on two different sensors in the front.
The PCS system has a sensor located beside the towing hook, and the radar cruise control has a sensor behind the L emblem in the grille.

this will work out ok for me, I can deal with that., since your so knowledgeable about the system, can you tell me what frequency the radar systems work at? I wonder if a radar detector can be programmed to ignore a specific frequency and still be useful.
otherwise I could just disable the system.
do you know if any lights illuminate on the dash to tell you the system is turned off?

I have installed a Belltronics STiR Plus radar (and laser interceptors) and have no issues with it. You can turn off certain bands of the spectrum if you know that cops in your area don't use them in which it makes alerts faster because its not scanning that area on the spectrum. As far as it interfering with the PCS/cruise i have yet to have an issue with it.
As far as the unit, it needs to be professionally installed as it is hardwired in. The unit sits behind your front grill or bumper. While it is pricey it's awesome!

but the 9500 wont allow you to turn off any bands but i know the stir will. but if what you say is true would i need to turn off any bands?
and for the record the car is leased, i think i'm going with the W/S mounted unit, don't feel like taking it all out later!
also since your in the Know, do you know anything about the escort MAX I've heard on RD forums it's a POS and has been known not alert when it was supposed to. there a couple YT videos that show this.
i was just about to order 2 of the MAX units and upgrade 2 of my existing units until i read the forums, the MAX wasn't getting very good reviews. i was thinking about the 9800ix but i really wanted the faster processor and new technology. im pretty bummed about it.
