On the inside, Lexus has decided to skip the LFA style instrument panel and instead a revised conventional 2 circles. In fact, the 2 silver rings of the speedometer and tachometer match the styling of the front cupholders.
This.... you don't have to get the F-sport....

We have these conversations with every model change

Allow me to correct my self, the 3IS interior is good in comparison to the competition, but isn't as good as 2IS.

To me fit and finish means how the panels fit together (The amount of or lack of gaps, rattles, etc) and their appearance. Hence "fit" and "finish". I'm not confusing it with design. The fit and finish AND design on the 3IS are better than the 2IS ... now quality wise, you would know better than I do as I spent only a little time in the 3IS. All I know is the 2IS is full of rattles (Dash rattle, cluster rattle, etc) ... that go away for a while but always come back.

Lexus should be ashamed of themselves.
Indeed I do. And yes, the new ES which I did get to spend some time in does have way too much hard plastic ... The new IS, at least under first impression, looked much better to me than the ES.... but not nearly as good as the 4GS... (But I don't expect it to as its in a lower price point)

My last 09 IS was like that, plus some other weird problems. But the build quality in my 2012 IS is much improved and has none of the problems like the 09 IS(usually the last model year has the best quality). Even the paint is more resistant to stone chips than my 09 IS. We don't know how good the build quality of the 3IS is as it just hit the market. So, give it some time and it will shows (we already know that multimedia system is buggy and needs an update). Even the new GS has some rattles and creaks here and there. It will be interesting to see what changes Lexus will make on 3IS in the middle life refresh.

I consider myself a consumer who considers material quality a pretty important thing when selecting a car. My disdain for what they have done to the inside of the ES over the years and especially the new 2013 model is well documented in this and other forums. The main reason I got a GS over an ES this time was material quality.

I can see how someone can say that in some ways the inside of the 3IS has lower quality materials than the 2IS, mainly the very bottom of the doors, and the very bottom of the dash, but I don't see how someone can say about the 3IS what they can say about the 6ES, that overall there is a significant reduction in material quality that significantly detracts from the enjoyment of the car. On the 6ES the cheaper plastic exists on the UPPER doors and the UPPER dash, where in those areas the IS features padded vinyl and simulated leather replete with stitching, etc. IMHO the interior of the 3IS feels more expensive than the 6ES by a significant margin.

As for the 2IS, the feel inside is very different. The 3IS is much sportier while the 2IS is smoother, more luxurious. From a material quality standpoint though I don't see that they are that different...which is an opinion I do not have about the 6ES vs the 5ES...or the 5ES vs the 4ES.

Is the IS as nice as the GS? No. But...I never liked the 2IS and would never consider buying one, whereas I would buy a 3IS.

Wow - new member and you make this one of your first posts.

In a thread that's been dormant for almost two years.

You'll probably just "feel" better if you wander over to the GS section and make yourself comfortable.

Maybe he bought the wrong car. RC350 has the exact same material and look as 3IS.

But it's way porkier so it may exude more quality.

The 3IS is completely failed after I sat in it at dealer. I only like the exterior design.
