Is that legal in RI? In CA it is. I don't want to put a plate either... I figured that I'll just buy the tow hook solution after I get a fix it ticket. My friend have had his 335i for 7 years, so far no ticket for not having a front plate. 
Looks like Rho-Plates could do the job for cheaper:

I do not know about California, but in RI it is illegal to go without a front plate. I have done it with many vehicles including my current 2IS. I have even been stopped over the course of the years for speeding and have not been fined for the plate. I keep the front bracket and plate in the trunk just in case it is mentioned and will state that it just fell off the front and see what happens.

In Virginia it's required, however the dealership was encouraging me not to put it on the front. So I'm just going to register it in Florida. I currently have 30 day Va tags now and I refuse to put anything on the front grille

Thanks, I did check with the guys at Rho Plates, they actually sell the plate for 3IS, and they said the tow hook is not the same size between 2IS and 3IS, so Grimmspeed is not an option for now.
