Default The 2.5L V6's days are numbered

As the title suggests, a little birdie told me something the other day and I thought it fit to share. My source comes from corporate Lexus in Socal.

The 2.5L V6 is slated to be replaced by a 2.0L Turbo I4 after the 2014 model year. Most suspected this because of the NX200t patent (that is undoubtedly FWD but a RWD engine layout for the IS will be made), and the fact the 250 and 350 engines are nearing the 10 year mark.

This would also coincide with the 2006 GS300/430 transition 2007 GS350/460 a few years ago.

The news also gives me hope that we'll see a GS200t somewhere in 2015 or MY15 - that of course is my own speculation.

Enjoy!

BTW Happy Mother's Day!

Cool! Thanks for the info.

I wonder if the 3.5 will receive some kind of update? I can't imagine it'll stay exactly the same for the entire run of the 3IS.

Thanks Hoovey. Why are they repeating the Gs300 to GS350 mistake? Just wait a damn year you only have one chance to make a first impression.

I hope it's tuneable! Please Lexus give us a chance to chip and tune any future turbos ala the Germans!

I have nothing to back this up with other than my own thought, but seems it's to say hey we added something new for the year. I can only hope power folding mirrors find their way on both IS and GS. RX gained them standard with the 2013 refresh

Getting rid of the 2.5L dog and going with a 2.0L Turbo I4 is a great move.

older, emissions, market equalization due to competition just some of the reasons I'm sure. Otherwise the 300 would not have been dropped from the GS line in the first place

This is great news and allows me to for once be patient for next year's 3IS rather than this year's !! I've said a few times already getting this new 3IS would be very difficult ..... knowing it's the same engine I got in the Fall of 2005 with the then new release of the 2IS !?!? Thank you for the update !

The turbo I4 in the BMW 3 series is a sweet engine with decent fuel economy to boot.I'm looking forward to the Lexus 2.0.Thanks for the info.

do you mean that they shouldnt release IS250 in 2013, but wait for extra year? That doesnt make sense.

They are waiting for 2014 since engine isnt ready today :-).

^^ other way around. They shouldnt have brought the old 2.5 back at all. How could the engine not be ready yet unless they have been sitting on their asses this whole time

So what about the 3.5? Are they planning to keep the 3.5 forever? They should come out with a 3.5 turbo, sweet heavens that would be nice!

Hopefully the 3.5 gets updated too. If they do that and make the NAV screen the proper size for the opening, the 3IS would be back on my radar despite my other misgivings about the interior.

That said, an engine refresh after the first model year sucks for anyone buying the first model year.

larger navi screen, new engines, 8-speed auto all around, leather option on F-Sport, auto folding mirrors. These are all things that the 3IS should have been graced with. At the very least make them available soon please Lexus. Otherwise that 550i or 14 CTS 3.6TT are looking mighty fine, just saying
