Lexus Community Reaction 2006 vs 2014 IS

And if you spend weeks driving all these cars back to back to back like I did, all of that really shows.
I really wanted a german car this time because I've never had one, crossed the E Class off the list early, but got deals negotiated on the 535 and the A6. Audi has a terrible lease, so it came down to the 535 and the GS. The GS is just the better car.

The Truth
The Truth of the matter is
1) Since the new 3IS is not technically out yet there is no real buzz once the commercials come out and people look over out their window and say wooh look at that car. Many people wont buzz about it on CL.
2) Listening to many other car enthusiasts we are a bit disappointed.
Yes the outside of the 3IS is drastically different ok KOOL! But we still have the same engine. Which is not kool!
3) Many of us purchased the 2IS because it wasn't a 1IS, it looked luxury, gave great power (for the 350 version) and it was reliable. The 3IS just looks different not sure if it looks luxury until we see it in person.
4) There is no way I would purchase a 3IS, coming from having two 350's in my lifetime I just want more power, which is why the next GEN ISF or 4 door M3 will be by choice. Atleast until I see the 3IS in person.

Never owned an IS (just traded in LS460L) but I have 3 friends that have/had 2IS.
Back to early mid 2000s Lexus knew what they are doing, now their designs just dont make sence. You cant just take a conservative brand and make it ugly-aggressive.I like bigger cars but always though IS is a great car and respected it. The 3IS is just plain ugly, there is no other way to describe it.

Another thing to remember is Lexus was using the L-finesse style that debuted on the GS, then IS/LS etc...this is the new "spindle" grill and Lexus has chosen to be more aggressive and bold with styling. They are well aware this new face will push some current owners off just like the GS. We have many previous GS owners who can't get past the new look even if the rest of the car is great.
Compared to 2005/2006 Lexus has today chosen a far more bold styling path. They also now have a LFA that influenced the IS and other Lexus models, that could not be said in 2006.

Good topic.
As a 2IS owner, a fan of the 1IS, I was waiting for the 3IS to blow my mind away. When I saw the LFA cluster, I knew it was going to be amazing!
I'm in my mid 20's (sigh, ok late 20's ) But ehhhhh, I felt underwhelmed. The interior doesn't appeal to me, looks like it belongs in a GS. It doesn't give me the sporty feeling I got when I first laid my eyes on the 1IS and 2IS. I don't agree with the bold exterior yet. Too bold I think. The 2IS seemed perfectly balanced between sporty and luxury.
But I agree with the above posts, about a change in the market and I think Toyota would know that better than me.
But I'll bet a dollar that when the real 3IS comes out, a good portion of haters (me included) will change our minds.
But I also think it will be hard to outshine the 2IS. The 2IS will be the e46 of Lexus.
