I don't even think bringing the coupe analysis in is even necessary. Sure, you can tell someone looking at a coupe that the 4 door will give them more room, but what about the many that don't even cons.ider a coupe. I don't really think that BMW or Audi has lost buyers because they gave the rear seats of their sedans a couple more inches; but I can definitely see people comparing rear seat room between all the cars as a purchasing factor. I'm just saying that Lexus probably doesn't want those customers going somewhere else because of that. And I don't think that they pick up BMW customers that have decided that the BMW coupe doesn't offer enough rear seat room.

I am not sure what are you arguing about here, there is no doubt that IS will get bigger back seat (it doesnt really Need bigger trunk but I bet it will get it with reduced size tire)... whatever they get, it will be helpful.

I got IS instead of A4 not only because I am lexus's biggest fanboy, but also because it felt more special, coupe like. So I doubt they will lose that.

The smaller passenger cabin is like a womb. cozy and comfortable for 2 + 2 kids.
You make it larger, of course you can get your "friends" in there a few times that you need to. But for the rest of the days in the year when you are driving all alone, you might lose that cozy cockpit feel that is currently what got me to buy the IS over the larger competitors.

yes... but getting 1-2-3 inches of knee space wont change that feeling. A lot of it comes from interior design as well as exterior - for instance smaller side windows. In A4 or F30, windows are as big as in Camry. IS has rising belt line making it sportier looking.

The Old Toyota Altezza / Lexus IS300 had a 5 year run as a Lexus (in USA) and an 8 year run as a Toyota..

The current Second Gen IS platform, is starting its 8th final year as well..
As they start rolling out the MY13 this month..

This news is already a month old and linked below.

Also, this thread should be merged with existing Car Chat thread..

Maybe with a newer title...??

Now why is that an issue? Those photographs were taken in virtual darkness and sometimes that can hinder others' ability to decipher it adequately. Not all of us have the time to neatly crop images that can also be preferably large in high resolution.

All this talk about the back seat and the IS still sells very well to be 7 years old with a small back seat. If you want a large back-seat you can buy the ES or the HS at the time. Lexus clearly sacrificed room for style points and they have the advantage of offering larger vehicles at the same price point.

Has anyone really sat in the back of the 3 series, its better but not that much better (E90). The F30 though, its really large back there, almost like the E39 to me, the car really is big for a 3. The A4 is really surprising being 184 inches long, 4 inches longer but I find the backseat just as bad.

Overall no one buys ANY of these cars for back-seat ROOM, they just want to actually have a backseat available.

I believe the IS 200 debuted in Europe in 1998 so the IS really had a 8 year run as well, we just got it here late.
