Default IS250 F Sport vs. IS350 F Sport?

Hi everyone, am new to the forum. I am thinking of buying a 2014 Lexus IS but want some information before hand. Currently no dealers with 150 miles of my location has a IS350 in stock or any IS with the F Sport package on it.

What is the difference between the two both cosmetic wise and handling/driving feel wise?

Why did you choose one over the other?

Is the Lexus now fun to drive? I am coming from a Mercedes C350.

How do you like your car so far?

Is the IS350 F Sport worth the amount of money over the IS250 F sport?

What do you dislike about the car?

Also, is the F Sport Package the same thing as the F Sport IS?

I saw on Lexus website that the IS350 F Sport was like $43,000 but when I went to build it, the configurator required that I add the F-Sport Package which takes the price to around $48,000

That's about the price for a 350 F Sport. They are both good cars but the 350 is more fun with the extra power. The gas mileage is not all that much greater with the 250 so I would go for the extra money for the IS 350 F.
Fun car to drive, not the fastest car on the street, but fast enough.

I never drove an IS250 F Sport and I never want to. The IS350 F Sport was lacking power and felt slower than my Infiniti G35 sedan I had before. Definitely don't want to feel how underpowered the IS250 is.

theres really almost no cosmetic differences between the 250/350 FSport, just really different engine. If your coming from a C350, then IS350 would be the car for you. The 250 has less power and not really as comparable.

Outside of the engine, the 350 has access to the IS-F's 8-speed transmission. I believe 350 has bigger brake pads as well. The 250 felt a bit more firm when driving in Sport mode compared to the 350. Outside of the badges you visually can't tell the difference between a 250 and 350 if they're both f-sport.

Why did you choose one over the other?

More engine power. The 250 has good power but you really have to push it to get the power out of it. The 350 has a smoother power curve at all ranges.

Very much so! I found it be the most fun in the class ...in regards to handling. The power of the S4 was the most fun in terms of engine roar, but after that it was the IS350 all the way.

How do you like your car so far?

Love it.

That varies person to person. Only you can decide that one. Obviously for me it is.

What do you dislike about the car?

If it had 30-50 more ponies and 30-50 more torque it would completely torch the competition. Since it has the least amount of HP in its class, that is its biggest fault. Outside of that I'd probably say the voice recognition (many love it, mine hates me), the seat warmers and cupholder placement.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Also, quick question to IS350 F-Sport owners. How much do you pay for insurance to cover this car? Does the Sport variant affect the price?

F sport has different headlights and interior trim as well as different gauge cluster

Why did you choose one over the other?

I have always driven the 250 and love it, it is quick enough for me

the Lexus is very fun to drive!

LOVE IT

depends on if you want to spend the extra money on the 2.5L or the 3.5L on the extra 100 HP

What do you dislike about the car?
250 could be a little more powerful

I went from a 2009 IS 250 AWD to a 2014 IS 350 AWD F sport. The 250 felt fine and if anything felt lighter on it's feet. The gearing was short so it jumped off the line. The 350 although feels a bit faster is not a fast motor. If you can spring for the 350 go for it. If not, it's not a big deal because you're not drag racing these cars.

the 350 is an even better deal this around when the lowered the price difference to $4k, get the 8 speed transmission and Sport+ Modes. On the 2IS, I thought the 350 was a great deal being $5k more for the bigger engine and bigger brakes. Now its an even better bargain for 3IS

Why not upgrade to the new C400?
