As 3IS owners, we take pride in our Lexus. Many of us are certainly car enthusiasts who not only love Lexus, but have also owned and loved other great cars. What other car(s) did you (or still do) have that stirred your soul?

I'll bite. Here is one of my all time favourite cars, partly because it was the first car I bought myself. A 1987 RX-7 Turbo-II (FC3S). Just an amazingly balanced car.

Also shown is my last ride ('05 STI), which I bought new and drove for over 8 years (through marriage, 2 houses, several jobs and 2 children!). Its was costing me many $'s/year for the last couple of years so that got a bit old.

I have problems, apparently. Things I've learned - I don't like silver, single clutch automated manuals stink, there's a reason that a "348"bhp Hyundai costs < $40,000 and I miss that blue Jag dearly.

Other things I've learned - German engineered 6.2L V8's are nuts but very thirsty. Lexus makes a damn good interior.

I buy used and re-sell. The IS is the first car I've bought new and only because of Lexus' solid resale value.

Despite very high car prices in norway, especially on anything that has a decent engine, I've owned a few cars over the year.

A good old car, that I loved because of the comfort, reliability and loading capaicty was US most selling car, the toyota camry. Had it for about 5 years, and I sort of miss it. It was a superior winter car, that never got stuck. Only thing that let it down was the fuel consumption. (very high fuel prices here as well)



Also had a hobby car at that time, an old datsun 1200. 600kg with rwd made it a very fun car


After I got a decent payed job, I bought myself a good sports car. A toyota Mr2 in very nice condition. Have had lots of fun with it. Still own this car today, and it is still in very good condition. Will probably keep it for at least 10 more years.



After the camry, bought an impreza. Norwegian taxes only made the diesel version affordable. As the WRX version did cost twice the amount of the diesel.
However I traded in the diesel in an older STI after just a year, as I really hated diesel enigne in a normal car. Never got hot enough in the winter and always ran out of rpm when the fun started.


So after getting the STI I was very satisfied for a few years, and had lots of fun with it.


But I grew up, and strated to get tired of spending every penny on the STi, so I bought the new IS hybrid

I reckon this is the most cost-effective way to switch cars regularly (better than leasing). It takes more work and patience, but anything worthwhile in life does. A friend of mine does the same thing and he has some pretty sweet rides much of the time without breaking the bank. I agree that if you are going to buy new, Lexus is a better choice than most.

My brother uses this strategy with BMW. He buys a car with about 10,000 miles on it and keeps a few years. As far as the topic of the thread, my all time favorite car was my 1966 Sasway Blue Mustang. I got it in high school after I got a merit scholarship to college. I used the $1350 I had saved for colllege and bought it in 1968 from a neighbor. No extra money to live at school, so I used this car to commute to campus. It was the six with a manual. No pictures survive of my first automotive love. So much fun to drive (probably because I was young), but it was horrible in the snow, fishtail city all the way!

So the app for the forum isn't letting me upload pics of my old car but I'll give you guys my story anyway. I may be the youngest 3IS owner on the forum. (I'm assuming) I'm only 20 years old . But coming from a 2011 Corolla S which I loved dearly. Had it for almost 3 years. The only senior in my highschool class to be driving a brand new car . It treated me well and i always felt safe driving it. I love the reliability of toyota/lexus.
