Default Left front catalytic converter replacement

I have a 2008 IS250, 125k miles. I got VSC+engine light on and the scan showed it is P0430. Typical cat issue. I turned the light off and it went back on days later so now I gotta deal with this.

I brought the car to the dealer. They ran several checks and they said the left front cat converter is not functioning and non-repairable. They quoted me $2500 for replacing the left front cat and some parts of the exhaust system, including the labor.

Typically you won't handle this at the dealer ($2500 what a rip off) if you don't have the warranty. So I went to several shops around my area and they either told me they didn't have that part or compatible converter won't work well on this model.

This car is worth less than 7k and I don't wanna spend 2.5k fixing it. But now my car has really low mpg now (10~15) and it won't pass the inspection in my state. So is there any other way around?

Go here https://advancebay.com/search?type=p...=is250+exhaust buy the header/cat assy. Either replace it yourself for free, or pay a shop.. I'll be you can be rid of the issue for about $350.

Are you sure it's not just the o2 sensor ? you might want to try and replace that before doing the header.

The dealer gave me the diagnostic and it only said left front cat. You know the dealer sometimes wants to make money out of you and exaggerate the issue asking you to replace many more parts than necessary. Since they didn't mention the sensor it should be fine.

Thx anyway I will take a shot.

Take it to independent shop and tell them that you have check engine light on. Don't mention anything about the cat.
