Default Replacement Brakes - Pads and Rotors

My 2009 IS250 has about 94k on the clock and it's time for a full brake job; rotors and pads. Rear rotors are OEM (from what I can tell) Fronts have at least been turned and aftermarket pads. I had the wheels off in the fall to bleed the brakes and it was closing in on time to replace.

I'm looking for a decent set of aftermarket rotors and pads. What's everyone running? This is a daily driver, so not looking for anything crazy. I've had decent luck with Wagner ThermoQuiets and auto parts house brand rotors on my 2003 Grand Cherokee. But that's a different animal from the IS.

I think you will find a lot of people are running Centric blanks with Akebono pads. It's a pretty popular and budget conscious option around here.

I bought my first set from rockauto a few years back and they did have the cheapest price. I just replaced them again Wednesday, nowadays you can find these on Amazon Prime. They are a little more for the part, but it came out cheaper once you include rockauto's expensive shipping prices. Plus I got them in two days haha.

I would give Raybestos AT rotors a try. The past few Centric rotors I installed had uneven rotor thickness.

I would go with Rockauto also. You can't beat their prices. As a alternative you can check tirerack.com. They are typically more pricey but offer the cryo treated centrics for the front. You can get the rear cryo centrics rotors from rockauto since they are cheaper (rockauto doesn't have the fronts).

Or just go with the plain centrics. I don't think you have to worry about anything unless your going to the track.

Thanks everyone! Some really good advice here.

How are those Akebono pads with brake dust?

I've seen a few "how too's" here on the job and it looks pretty straight forward. Any issues being in an area the salts the roads and removing the rotors or calipers? I love the snow, but don't like what the salt does; and the difficulty is causes when removing brake components.

The Akebono ceramics have a medium amount of dust. Nothing that in-between car washes that you'd find annoying; just more than say low-dust OEMs though.

I'm running on StopTech slotted rotors and Hawk Street pads. Not the most budget friendly setup, but if you want something with a little more bite without swapping to 350 brakes, this will do. On a scale of 1-10 on brake dust, I'd say it's about a 6.

I personally haven't tried the Akebono Ceramic pads yet, but the Hawk HPS Pads are pretty good as well. Less dust than oem with more bite. Just ordered another pair of Centric premium rotors from RockAuto,.

You may want to look at forum sponsor SpeedFreaks:

I'm a customer of theirs, and extremely happy with them:

Project Mu is a top notch brake pad and has received accolades in other forums.

Thanks for the all advice everyone. How are the Akebono pads when cold? I live in New England. I want to ensure I get something that'll work right out of the driveway; and won't need any warming up.

I noticed there's two different rotors listed on rockauto based on caliper casting?

Any thoughts on which pads I need? Two different ones are listed on Rock Auto.
