Default Joining the Lexus family. Please Help!

Hey guys! I'm getting my first Lexus tomorrow. I'm not much of a car guy so I could use your help.

2009 IS 250 82K miles $16,000
This is being sold as a lexus dealer CPO (not lexus CPO) that offers 2/yr limited powertrain warranty. Car is in pristine condition. The services history is a little concerning, granted I know little about car issues.
1) 62K mi - possible freon leak (levels were low). 2) 73K mi - Coolant pump leak of the weep hole. Replaced pump. 3) 74k mi - Trouble code p2009. Replaced intake manifold.

Are any of these issues very concerning? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Congrats, The IS is a heck of car to own. Once you owned one you will never ever want to leave. Wish I could put some insight on the issues you mentioned, but I never had those issues. As an entry level sport sedan its very reliable in comparison to its competitors.

Thanks! I've looked at all the luxury brands, but Lexus' are built to last 200+K miles. The choice is easy. I just want to make sure this engine isn't showing red flags as the issues are happening with higher mileage.

I see nothing wrong with the car.

1. Freon replaced @62K miles and 18K miles later it's still full. Good.

2. Water pump replaced. Good. Lexus updated the water pump, so you golden.

3. For code P2009, the correct fix is to replace the intake manifold. Good.

Does the replaced intake manifold have anything to do with the carbon build up issue with the IS? A friend told me that 70K miles is pretty early for that repair.

the only thing is..... 16k for IS250 at 82K miles sounds high to me... Is that the going rate in your area?

Never heard of this. If it's not a Lexus CPO, it's not a CPO. The dealer may be offering a powertrain VSA ("extended warranty"). If this is the case, make sure its a Lexus Extra Care Power Train warranty, not a third party warranty.

Yeah, getting an AWD IS in Denver is expensive. I've negotiated to $16,800 out the door.

My other option is to get similarly loaded 2011 IS with 60K miles for $20,500 at an independent dealership. It still has 9 months on the powertrain and corrosion warranty, but it's clearly been driven carelessly with tons of curb rash and scratches along the bottom of the front bumper. It has a perfect service history with no repairs, however, so I wanted to see if anything in the 2009's history is worrisome in the long term.

You're right, it's definitely a dealer certified pre-owned. The fine print says it's the "Century Limited Powertrain Warranty", which I assume is a third party? There's a $500 deductible.

yes, it's the extended warranty covered by third party. As for all the trouble code you have, you don't have to worry cause all of them has been taken care off by dealership so you are in good way to own lexus.

Pump failure must be common. I purchased a 06 a few weeks ago and looking through the logs on Lexus it was replaced around 60k miles. I would consider that a good thing. It most likely has a lesser chance of failing now. Mine was also serviced for low freon but they didn't find a leak according to the records. The intake manifold replacement could have been bad gaskets, crack, or something again nothing big. None of those parts are what I'd consider risks. Internal engine issues is when I would consider worrying or transmission problems.
