Default LED strip stopped working in headlamps

I installed OEM headlamps with LED strips on my IS250 over 3 years ago. The full brightness circuit is getting power directly from the 12v accessory line with a kit that allows switching it off when sidelights are turned on and it has been fine since. But today one side started flashing and then completely stopped. When I turn side lights on the secondary dim circuit activates and both side LED's are fine but when I turn sidelights off on the full brightness only one side is working. At first I thought maybe a problem with the switching relay but then the problem should occur on both sides. I will have to investigate further after the festive holidays but was wondering if anyone has any similar experiences? Are there any issues with the LED units inside these lamps? Funny thing is that the one that has stopped working was a brand new genuine unit from the dealership and the one that is still working was a second hand unit which was already over 1 year old
