If I were to keep the car for many more years (unlikely since I tend to change cars often), I would be waiting until it gets to 90k or 100k to change it again

But most on this post obviously has attempted and gotten good results. Question is, now that the original fluid's been replaced, how often will you now need to replace the fluid?
The problem with higher miles is that its already too late if there is any damage. New fluid can cause more "damage" then if you keep old fluid. Thats why its usually recommended to do it around 60k or maximum probably before 100k. But past 100k miles I wouldn't bother

Do you prefer a condom or no? Filter is mandatory if you drop the pan.

Still seeing about a 10-15% MPG increase after my DIY trickle flush! Very happy with my results!

The transmission fluid report from Blackstone Labs has arrived and based on my non-expertise observation, the results are a bit bleak.

Sample was taken at 81,000 miles when a full fluid flush was performed.

I am not sure that analysis is worth the electrons it takes to display the results. I doubt they've ever seen another Aisin like yours ever, so they can't comment on what is elevated or not with any accuracy. As with all UOA, the meat is in the trending and the knowledge of the person analyzing the results. Neither are present with this single point perspective, so I'd personally take it with a big grain of salt if I were you.

Thanks for looking at things with a different perspective Lance. I think I might be the first person on the CL forums to provide a sample of used transmission fluid from an Aisin A760E unit to Blackstone Labs for analysis so it is probable that the results are from a single point analysis. The transmission still behaves like it's supposed to so all is well.

Looks like we need a few other volunteers that have recently been doing trickle flushes on their A760E transmissions to provide some samples to Blackstone so we can start building a larger database.

Sounds like your trans took some multi-vitamins! LOL

So have you seen a 10-15% increase in MPGs since the flush like I have?

Nope. No change in MPGs after the flush. The car is still showing the same 18-19 MPG range, even after recently cleaning the MAF.

This DIY video will help anyone doing transmission fluid change. If you change the fluid on cold engine/transmission, you can skip the part of shorting terminals at OBD port.

The IS has a a sealed Tranny case. Sort of. As I found out, the Miata uses the same tranny.

I have drained and filled my Miata as I am doing with my IS350 now.
