2008 Lexus IS300 Stinks as Sewer
Hi everybody
recently i got a problem with my 2008 Lexus IS300 AT. I bought it band new. now its not even 100.K.Basically i have no claims bout car, served ok all the time and didn't create any problems but.
Like almost one year i have an issue with some stinky smell inside the vehicle when i push the gas pedal to the floor. Stinks like hydrogen sulfide. My brother in law says that it comes inside interior when the windows open but sometimes i smell it even when it completely shut.
I'll tell you what i have done so u can exclude some options of issues straightaway:
i did change the battery, and it did nothing smells remain.
i was going to change the catalyst but service guy told me that he had a guy with just same model and make vehicle with the same problem and he replaced catalysts and it wont change nothing.
SO, im guessing what it might be,
NOTE: it gives you bad odor onli in high RPMs in low it works ok.
Waiting on your answers and offers.
Thank u in advance

Welcome. Caspian Sea to the Pacific Ocean, isn't the internet great!
To me, your concern sounds symptomatic of catalytic converter blockage or catalytic converter itself if equipped. Could also be the gas you're using.
Could also be normal for this car? See these threads:

So your offer is to change cats or the exhaust system completely? it would solve the problem for sure?
In our region in most cases when u got your catalytic converter plugged of, its just dismantled and replaced with 2 inch pipe with the mesh or something like that. means that your vehicle is running without cats. You'd have a louder sound and larger fuel consumption but wont smell rotten eggs any more.

Unfortunately, no one on a forum can say what will solve your issue for sure, we can only offer what typically causes similar issues based on our collective experiences. Review the information and threads posted on this site to get a better idea of what others have experienced and how they took action to resolve, then use your best judgment on how to proceed.
Im gonna replace cats and see what happens, later i'm sharing my experience.

Hello PatrixUSA,
Just FYI, i've replaced all the cats and i still have the problem of bad egg smell. So on the next week i'm going to get the engine and transmission box down in order to replace the gasket of exhaust manifold on the engine block. This is the last thing i assume can have an issue.
