Nav to Non-Nav?
Kind of a strange one here. I'm wanting to possibly go from a nav system to a non-nav system. My nav unit is malfunctioning and I'm not inclined to fix it, especially with the relatively useless maps. Has anyone gone to a non-nav unit? I've been though converting TO a nav system, but not from.
Thanks!

I never use the backup camera or bluetooth, so those aren't a big deal. Heater controls are on the non-nav unit, too.
No, no screen. I would ideally be able to just drop the non-nav unit right in.

what part of the nav is malfunctioning? is the screen frozen
so did your vehicle not come with the navigation unit and you converted it to a nav system? or was that for a different vehicle.

It originally came with nav, but an unfortunate accident damaged the screen and marked up the plastic. I could fix the display with a new screen and touch overlay, but I'd still have cosmetic issues. Since I don't highly value any of the screen's features, I don't mind spending less and swapping in the non-nav unit if easily doable.

What else is there other than radio, climate, backup camera, bluetooth, and nav? Let's see...Service intervals and reminders? I could see the computer wigging out about that one since it sets reminders on the dash display.

I think this is likely possible.
There was someone on this forum that had changed from the Lexus nav to Fly Audio after market nav that was made for non-nav cars. He had to rewire some things to make it work. You should be able to rewire the same way, but instead of putting an after market nav in, you put in the Lexus non-nav. He posted all the wiring and directions, but I couldn't find his post.

I have a non-nav. Never used an IS nav, so take my comments as you will.
I have an '06 and specifically found a non-nav. I feel that even brand new car new systems can't compete with my phone in performance and aesthetics, so a 10 year old system was a no go. I feel like not having the nav makes the car look less dated, as there's no terribly old map and menus (I can't stand all these new cars with horribly laggy UIs... Kills me). Also, I use an aux cord to play my music. I'd honestly use the cord over bluetooth even if I had it because of the sound quality.
All that being said, I've had alot of people blown away when I tell them the car is 10 years old with 150k miles. Lots think it's very new. Highly recommend the non-nav.

^^^^Didn't know this was going to be a debate on Nav vs Non Nav. While I agree with your points on the outdated Nav system, I never use mine. I always use Google Navigator on my phone. My phone mounts in a holder on my console giving me a constant view of the screen. The phone is also plugged into my aux so the sound comes through my speakers. However, I do appreciate the Nav screen while driving around. In this day and age it is very hard to live without a backup camera. I believe they will be in all cars by 2018. My truck doesn't have a camera, and I surely miss it. And of course Bluetooth for my phone - how handy is that?
