Sunroof won't close all the way. What could be wrong?
So my sunroof was working fine the other day, and now it won't close fully. It stops right before the seal is complete, also, it won't tilt all the way either.
I currently have it on tilt and the seal sits a fraction of an inch higher than the roof (so luckily it's kinda sealed, but water still gets in). When I put it to "normal" the back of the sunroof sits about 1/2 inch lower than the roof.
I reset my ECU and I believe I was able to do the recalibration, not sure though.
I have noticed one thing while troubleshooting: The screen on the underside of the sunroof does not slide back automatically when opening. If you open the sunroof, the cover will stay closed.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather not have to go into the dealership and give them $120 if it's something I could possibly fix myself.
I'm going to unplug the battery for 30 minutes tonight and give the reset another try. Bad idea? Back of the sunroof which sits 1/2inch lower than roof (while on normal)

Since no one is replying I will take a guess. It could be that your motor is going out or if there is a gear mechanism, it might have skipped a couple of teeth.
This is a mechanical issue with the motor probably. Now I have had something like this happen to me before but in a Buick Regal. I had to pull the headliner down at the back of the sunroof (just a little, like an inch) so I could jump the motor directly with power and make it close all the way. After that I never used the sunroof again because the motor was bad and it wouldn't close on it's own unless I jumped it with power.
So you will probably need a new Sunroof motor.
Here is an earlier thread on the topic.

Here is a youtube clip on resetting.
Here is another video on how to fix it.

can you open the sunroof all the way?
never had this happen to my old 2is. i did have something in the track that prevented it from closing spent five minutes wondering why the heck it wouldnt close only to realize i had a small tool in the track.
i doubt its this in your case.
thats sucks if your motor went bad
