I'm going to purchase a 2012 Lexus from a big car dealership, Kia/Dodge/Chrysler/Ram(I think). Anyways, the price is great, really good. I have been watching the car, and car kept falling in price till I got it for what I got it for. The car has about 21,000 miles. Going to inspect it/sign paper on Monday at a different state, in West Virginia (I live in Michigan). The only thing that threw me off is that the tires seem to be mismatched from the pictures. Two tires, either front or back, are Cooper, and the other two are Dunlops. Could this car be rolled back in miles? Or could be another reason? Carfax odometer check says everything checks out, also the history shows the driver replaces the oil every 3-4 thousand miles. Only has one owner, the car was purchased in Virginia, always serviced at the same place in Kentucky at a Valvoline oil shop, and now sold at a dealership in West Virginia. It had 6 oil changes in it's life. First one at about 4270 miles in 3/27/13, second one at 8450 in 1/3/14, third at about 11 thousand miles in 08/05/2014, then at 14553 in 7/31/15, then 3/26/2016 and the final one at the dealership selling it at about 21100 in 8/12/16.

I'm in college, and this is a big purchase for me, other than the tires mismatching, what else should I look out for in wear and tear in a car with only 20,000 miles. What should I check, and can I do to make sure I'm not getting ripped off, even though the dealership is a big local chain. Could Lexus check if anything is faulty?

Not too many things go wrong with the 350 so if you want you can ask them to get a pre purchase inspection at a Lexus dealership or at a local shop you trust. I'm pretty sure Dunlops come stock on the car so the Cooper is probably the newer set. Not sure what could happen in 20,000 miles that would require new tires. Are the new Cooper tires cheaper/more expensive than the Dunlops? Could signal a variety of things like financial situation and etc.

I doubt at 20,000 miles anything really bad could have happened, but I'd get the car inspected by a mechanic you trust or a Lexus dealer. First thing you should do even if everything does check out is get the car inspected just to be completely sure.

Test drive, check carfax and get it inspect by Lexus dealer before purchasing.

Only about $100 for a proper inspection - if there's additional issues, you could tell the dealer to fix or drive the price down accordingly. Totally worth it IMHO

I don't recall my tires wearing unevenly but I bought mine with ~30,000 miles, but he AWD isn't 50/50 so you will get more power to the rears. I would say with mileage matching through the life of the car on oil changes the most likely scenario is not rotating tires (square setup allows you to on 350 AWD) and getting faster wear on 2, then replacing with cheaper tires before trade in. That said, I agree with everything above.

I bought the car without taking it to the dealership. Carfax did a vincheck and said everything checks out. I took it two days ago though, after I bought it, to a Lexus dealership by me and did a
"peace of mind" inspection. That's what they call it lol. They said everything is fine and the guy said he been working 10 years with Lexus and never saw a Lexus with rolled back miles because it is not that easy and it will show in the system. Also, I found out that the dealership replaced the tires before selling it because carfax showed 4 tires mounted Anyways, pictures are coming soon.

Congrats, you will be very happy with the purchase. The 350 is incredibly reliable and the AWD handles any bad weather like a champ. Sounds like my purchase, 2012 IS350 AWD one owner with 2X,XXX miles from a non-Lexus dealership.

Any time I see mis-matched tires, I would want to throw the car on a lift to look for any visible signs that it might have ran up on something to pop the tire.
