Default Anyone use ramps for oil change

Are our cars too low to use ramps to do oil change? I have an 07 is350 and looking to start doing my own oil changes, was thinking about buying ramps and do it that way since it's easy and cheap but buddy of mine mentioned stock height even migjt be too low to use ramps. Anyone use them or can shed some info?

Any idea how much inches of lift I need for oil change, these are pretty pricey, the ones for $89 are cheapest I found but only have 5 inch lift...

Anyone ever use the rhino ramps, the 12,000 lb ones have a 17 degree incline says its good for low vehicles and lift of 6.5 inches, and they are only like $40 for the pair

For an oil change you barely need any lift. In the past when I was just starting on learning basic DIY maintenance I used the scissor jack in the trunk. If you want to use ramps you'll be fine. My advice is to just get a proper jack and jack stands and skip the ramps altogether if you're really planning on doing DIY maintenance, as after oil changes there are many other basics you can pick up like changing brake pads.

Sorry man, you can't be more wrong here, when doing quick maintenance, i.e, oil change / coolant change etc., the ramps are a no brainer. Easy, quick and get the car high enough to do all that.
I do agree when doing certain things, a jack & stands is the way to go, but not for routine maintenance.

If you want quick yes ramps would be fine, but I was stressing versatility. Imo the time difference in setting up the ramps versus using a jack and stands is negligible, hence why I'd save the money and skip ramps. To each their own though.

I use rhino ramps and they work great. No cracks and very durable. I also got a BMW X5 on the ramps and they held up just fine. My car is at stock height and getting up the ramp is no problem for me. Using ramps and a Fumoto oil drain valve makes oil changes super easy and no mess.

I have used ramps to change the oil on my cars since longer than you folks; have been alive. Since the sixty's. With my F, I use Race Ramps as mentioned in post No. 2 above.

Another happy Rhino ramps user here. I'm at the stock height, and they work fine. I agree with the others that stated that using ramps is MUCH faster than a jack and jack stands.

My ramps are made of composite reinforced fiber plastic, I use a 2x8 boards 3 feet long to climb up the ramps with no issues!
i put them half way on the ramp to clear the front bumper and it’s all good from there
