2006 IS 350 - potential new buyer
good morning,
i am currently shopping for a 2006 IS 350. I found two vehicles within my budget.
Vehicle 1: has 77k miles and all options.
vehicle 2 : has 140,000k miles and all options.
difference in price is $4,000
1. are there any issues to watch for with these cars?
2. is the car just as reliable at 140k as it was at 77k?
3. or should I spend the 4K now, assuming i would spend 4K in service and maintenance on the higher mile car, regardless?
thank you

I bought my 2006 IS350 5 mos ago with 126K miles--super clean, dealer serviced, all recalls done--I bought it without hesitation because I know Lexus/Toyota are super reliable and will run a long time.
Check service/recall/TSB history on both cars--valve springs, steering rack, fuel rails, cam gear, dashboard replacement.
Lexus is sporty, luxurious, reliable--it's an excellent choice!

If you haven't already done so, check out the FAQ sticky thread at the top of the forum. One of the many useful items you'll find there is a 2IS buyers guide that directly addresses your question about common issues to look for.

Got mine with 109k miles. 2 years and 20k miles later.. Only issue were: Nav screen freeze, rear shocks leak (front showing signs), windshield washer pump failure, and... that's about it. It's been running really good. I say save the $4k and maybe use it on some mods or maintenance stuff. GL.

Appreciate the "sticky" information, there is some great advice there.
I also appreciate the user experience replays. I am now leaning towards saving the cash 👍

Check that all the recalls have been performed. Make sure the door locks work, lock actuators are a common failure and an expensive fix. Make sure someone hasn't broken the a/c recirculate door while attempting to change the cabin filter, that is another common thing that isn't cheap to replace. Also be aware that you're likely buying into this crappy airbag recall situation that a ton of people are going through right now with no fix on the horizon. As well as the melting dashboard and door panel issues with the 2006's. Some of that may not be a problem up north, but it sure is on cars from the south.
