Default A question for those of you who have run 20" wheels

I'm in the market for a new set of wheels after my last set cracked, and my stocks are now in need of new tires. I wanted to wait till January or so to buy, but it looks like I might have to rush this one a bit.

my previous set were Linear corse LC818 19s staggered, i didn't run into many issues - fenders are rolled, and i relocated the front tabs.

I was considering getting a set of 20s, specifically 20x8.5 and 20x10 with some conservative offsets. The same wheels are available in 19x8.5 and 19x9.5. In my head the 19s don't seem wide enough even though the backs are a difference of .5". I took al look at the 20s today and they just looked massive in the shop.

For those of you who have run 20s, and especially those of you who have done both, did you have a lot of fitment issues? I don't want to have to do a lot of work just to get them to fit. Pricing the difference is negligible surprisingly. If i could do 20s without much of an issue i'd probably just go that route, but i know the 19s will fit with no issue.

I've spoken to others with 2IS and they've recommended against 20s. and some of are currently on 20s.

Just need a little advice before i pull the trigger. $$$$

TL;DR:

Would you recommend 20s over 19s? And will I face a lot of fitment issues lowered on 20s?

I've never run 20's but I was told by a few people to stay away from them as well.. roads are bad where I live and riding on 19's you can get jarred quite nicely (and crack a rim such as yourself) - From what I know the only way to avoid significant rubbing and fitment issues is to run a super low pro tire.. usually a 30 sidewall - however since your fenders are already rolled and bumper tab relocated you might be a step ahead in that regard.. how did your other wheel crack? hit something?

Yeah I'd be running 225/30 and 255/30 for the 20s. I was running low pro tires on my 19s though already. 235/35 and 265/30. But then again the rear did crack. I'm not actually sure when it happened to be honest. My rear tires were super worn, so I thought there was just a slow leak from that, but when i got new tires, there was still the issue. Thats when i found 2 cracks on the back side.

I think the only erason im hesitant on the 19s is the 9.5 rear just doesn't seem wide enough, even if its only a .5 diff from the 20s.

I always ran 20s on my 2IS, mainly for the looks and cheaper tire prices when compared to 19s.

I was tucking tire all around while slammed on coils and didnt have any issues after rolling the fenders and relocating the bumper tab on the front fenders.

I run 20's on my 350 and it is lowered, but not slammed. I do have a few minor rubbing issues on terrible road surfaces and unexpected dips, but overall I love it. I'm on 245/30 in the front and 285/25 in the back. Not tucked, fenders not rolled and little to no issues, although these wheels were on the car when I bought it so I can't speak on ease of installation/fitment.

I got a staggered set of Diablo Deltaforce Black on my whip with 20x8.5+45 wheels & 225/35/20 tires front, and 20x9.5+35 245/35/20 back. The car came like that and while it looks pretty mean, the tires are a little stretched for this wheel width and I can't recommend going with these tire sizes. I do get rubbing issues over uneven roads. I want to say that the car is lowered but honestly I don't know since the car came like that. I might get rid of these wheels once the tires are worn down but it's still got lots of life left so...

From what I read you shouldn't have too much of a problem fitting 20s.

Slightly off topic question though, but why run 20s if all it really does is add weight? Just curious to hear from anyone else running 20s. Personally I think even 19s are a bit too much. Does it ride better? Is the traction worth it? Am I losing it or something?

Certain wheel companies only make certain styles in 20s, tires tend to be cheaper when compared to 19s, and some people like the look and fit of 20s vs 19s/18s. Just a few reasons

I see, alright thanks. Its just every 'scientific' (if you can even call it that...) review sort of frowns upon larger rums due to slower acceleration and reduced fuel economy and such. The tires tend to be cheaper thing, I definitely did not know.
