I wouldn't buy a IS 250. If you're budget is 11K, you should buy a used Civic with 30K miles on it. You will get your money's worth for sure, and you will have a dependable car.

If you can expand your budget, go for an IS 350..

The modification that they made was changing up the piston rings in order to reduce the carbon buildup from blowby into the crankcase. All DI engines (majority of manufacturers are forced in this direction due to EPA) have this issue, it's not limited to Lexus, but DI engines should be a no-go no matter who has built it. The only type of DI engine that works is the dual injection system found in the 3.5 liter engines..

what are the implications of carbon build up on the intake/exhaust valves? i honestly don't know and i own two 3IS 250s
