How am I to go about resolving this with Lexus Canada? I do not feel safe driving around in a car that an airbag can deploy anytime and kill me.
Toyota Canada sent out an email to dealers regarding this recall on Tuesday. Canada will be following the USA Zone C rollout.

That means that for 2006-2008 the recall will launch in Canada after December, 2016.
For 2009 models, the recall will launch in Canada after December, 2017.
For 2010-2011 models, the recall will launch in Canada after December, 2018.

Your call will not have an active recall on it until next year, Zynthe. That's when you'll be able to get the airbag replaced at your local Lexus dealer.

The interesting thing about the recall announcement was that it did not include any vehicles newer than 2011, however the filing from Takata includes 2012 and 2013 model years (not specifically for the IS), so we may have to wait and see what happens. I'm not sure the propellant type in the newer vehicles, however the part number did not change between 2011 and 2012-13.

^^^^From that map in Post #30, I'm certain that the 2012, 2013 models have the same Takata airbag. Just not as urgent (according to the officials). But they all looking like a ticking time bomb to me

Takata may be bankrupt before this whole mess is over

From Ferraris to Chrysler/Fiats and Mazdas, they are speculating over 993,000 cars total could be affected by the faulty Takata inflation units.....

It's a lot more than that. The recent updated recall from Toyota expanded to 1,580,000 vehicles from Toyota alone, nevermind all of the other manufacturers.

Jeff
According to Jalopnik it was an additional 12 million this morning across 8 manufacturers. Don't know if this includes the already recalled ones though.

I'm thinking about just disabling the passenger airbag for now before the recall can be done ...

I'm in Texas with a build date of Feb. 2006......so I'm a prime candidate for getting to the front of the queue. Degradation happens in the 6-9 year period. I was going to take the IS on our annual road trip in July, now I have to fall back on another vehicle for the 8,000 mile trip. Never had an air bag deploy but don't feel like putting my wife in the murder seat.

Just now reading all about this. I'm getting quite nervous. I can't just "park" the car and wait and wait and wait for the fix to come in. Took delivery of my '06 in January of said year so it is getting old! Do I just trade it in? Or what? How can I disconnect the airbag? Do I really need to have it disconnected? Guess I'll ask my service adviser on Tues.

NUTS to the this whole mess!!!!! Sometimes I really miss my 1977 Corolla.

Lexus dealers will NOT disconnect the airbag for liability reasons, they have stated that in the documents. It only affects the passenger side airbag, so if you have a co-pilot they should sit in the back seat for safety sake. This is one price we pay for ever more complex machines.
