Default Rear Shock Recomendations

Hello. It appears I have a blown rear shock (thanks to the wife hitting a large pot hole). Any recommendations on new ones? Not looking to spend a ton of $ and would actually prefer a softer ride (and just replacing the rear). Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks. Paul.

I'm not lowered and 100% stock (only has 36k on it). It's my daily driver, but I really don't go anywhere (we use the durrango for family trips). I would love to lower it and add some mods, but I would probably turn it in for a 350 for that.

I'll check out the Tokicos. I was looking at the KYBs because they seem to be pretty cheap (especially compared to OEM) and get decent reviews. Just not sure they're any good. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I believe a gas shock will give you a stiffer ride vs a hydraulic
might have that backwards tho

Doesn't Lexus use KYB shocks as OEM?

How old is car? If you only have 36k miles, you can prob just replace the one blown shock with OEM.

Thanks for the replies. It's an 08 250. When I searched, it looked like the OEM was almost $200. Just thought that there may be something better and cheaper after market.

I'm wondering this too. Who makes the oem shock and is there an aftermarket equivalent?

KYB is basically the replacement of OEM shocks on our IS.

I replaced my rear with KYB from amazon and I am satisfied with how they turn out. They're very similar to OEM.

There seems to be varying information about stock shocks on our cars. ISlv350 is spot on. Lexus uses Tokico as it's OEM supplier. KYB used to be the factory supplier awhile ago. Both Tokico and KYB offer good replacements that will work fine. I recommend the Tokico HP (blue) shocks. I've used them on a few vehicles and they ride like stock, but give a little better handling when pushed. KYB Gas-adjust, G2, or Excel-G are also good replacements and will perform like stock. If you have AWD, then good luck! Aftermarket replacements are limited and you'll likely only find KYBs for a reasonable price.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I think I will go with the KYBs. They seem to be the most widely available and at a good price.

Now that this car is starting to age (by years, not miles), I need to start learning the ins and outs so I can start doing work myself. I'm not the greatest (or knowledgeable) of mechanics but been managing to keep my 91 BMW running well so I am growing more confident with my mechanical abilities. (And if this board is as good as bimmerforums [which it has been so far], I should be able to keep this running for many years to come).

Thanks. Paul.
