Hi All,

I am new to this forum in order to get info from the people who own the car I am considering.

I am in the process of buying a 2011+ used car with low/decent mileage. I want my car to be 4 door, somewhat classy, somewhat sporty, good mpg, and reliable.
Currently there are 3 cars I am considering. 1) Lexus IS250 6cyl RWD with F-sport package
2) Volkswagen GTI Mark 6 and 3) Lexus CT200h (just for the excellent mpg).

If mpg was not important I would choose the IS250 with my eyes closed but I am here to ask what MPG do you get on your IS250? I am gonna drive 70% highway and 30% city and about 40 miles everyday.

My Questions:
1) Well, Your mpg on your IS250?
2) Do you think IS is a suitable car for this commute?is it reliable enough?
3)Do you have experience with the other 2 cars I am considering? If so, How do they compare to the IS250?

Im from australia and i get 10l per 100km which equals to roughly 23miles per gallon. Its a pretty reliable car and with you driving mostly on highways i reckon you would average 30miles per gallon. Ive also driven the ct200 and that is also a very good car, alot better milage.

Hello and welcome to CL, My 2010 IS250 gets around 28 MPG Hwy and is great on trips, close to 30 MPG....
Mine has been reliable and I'm not familiar with the other two cars but my next one is going to be the IS350.

How about IS350? I get 23.6 mpg and extra 100 hp is money well spend.

Here are my stats. I don't have a heavy foot.

26-27 on highways.
22-23 city driving.

Can go down to 16 in winter (-20F weather...)

Isn't really fuel efficient, but that's what you get out of a 6 cylinder running on premium fuel I guess

*Keep in mind that 2nd gen ISs have absolutely NO leg space for back seat passengers. I don't know how many passengers you will be carrying and why engineers didn't give an extra foot, but it's really tight, especially if you're 6 feet and over. That's the only thing I can complain about my 2011 IS250.

I get 27/28 HWY..and about 24 city
+2 on the added 100hp
if u drive yourself, or with a significant other. or with kid/s its a pretty tight space back. And kind of in the front.
but reliability..yes super bullet proof engine.
for ct tho best mpg of all 3 cars
and the gti is fast also but itlooks small for me

I'd go for the 350 as well if you have the extra $ to spend. Wish I had known that before buying my 250. Power is OK though, very responsive and feels great in PWR mode. Does lack a little HP/Torque on the highway though.

Live in NYC.

I get 17MPG on a good week. I drive very light footed. My highway trips last no more than 10 min tops. So I guess im more of a city driver (Stop and go, Not a lot of long roads in NYC)

IS250 in NYC and I average 15-17 mpg depending on how aggressive I drive.

Also is350 and get around 18/gal. Live in sf bay area, so lots of hills + city driving.

1. Recently got an is350 and am getting 23-25mpg (70% hwy/ 30% city) Refill about 320 miles.
2. Lexus by far is the most reliable car i've ever owned (I owned 3). Went german for 2 years and it was junk.
3. I've driven all 3 cars, For the is250, its a decent powered car that gives good MPG (i heard 27-29 with 400+ miles til refill). For the VW GTI, i hear bad stories for every VW, those things are bulletproff engines but the quality parts (plastics) break and continues to break. For the CT200h, its a nice looking car but you'll regret not getting the is250 (no hate on the CTs). All in all, its what you are looking for, Reliability = Lexus, if you want better gas = Ct200h, and if you want a classy sedan obviously would be the is250.

Thanks for all the replies. I drove the mk6 Gti 2 days ago and didn't really like it. The ride felt pretty high from the ground (Yeah I couldn't believe it) even though it is a small car. I drove my friend's mk7 gti and didn't feel the same way. My top choices are CT200h and IS250. I know a lot of guys here suggested me to get the IS350 for the extra horsepower but I really don't care about horsepower, I like the look of IS250/350 and mpg is more important for me than horsepower.
I want to go drive both ct200h and is250 to see which one i like more. Ct200h although is way slower, it looks sportier. IS250 is more of a classy sedan with better performance. I really like all the things that both cars offer.
CT200h = Reliable, Excelent mpg, sporty look/classy(Lexus badge), ok performance for an average driver
IS250 = Reliable, good mpg, Classy look, good performance

I don't know how good the leg space is in ct200h compared to IS250 but I assume it is smaller I am not sure, also since 2nd gen IS250 has been in production since 2005, it looks a little dated compared to CT200, but no offense here guys, I still love the look of it.

I am just gonna choose the one that I like more while driving it. I think that is the best way to choose it because as I said both of them have their own pros and cons that makes it hard to choose.
