IS250 2011 - Clunk Noise when applying brakes
Hi there...
Well I hit a pothole this winter, but everything seemed fine.
Lately I've been noticing a CLUNK noise when applying the brakes in the right front wheel so I did my research and turns out that it might be either the brake pads (they leave a small gap for heating cycle) that could be moving when applying brakes or probably a bushing that cracked following the impact.
There is no other noise when I'm on the road and take bumps (the ball joints are fine I think!). My steering wheel is not shaking, brakes (4 rotor + 4 pads) have been changed last fall. I do have good mecanical knowledge, but I'm not familiar with IS models.
Did this happened to anyone of you? Does anybody have an idea of what else it might be?
Additionnal info : It only happens when I press the brakes after a while without using them (if I stop 2-3 times in 5 minutes, it won't happen except on the first brake use - but if, let's say, I'm on the freeway for 10-15 minutes without brakinn, it'll happen when I will brake).
I am bringing my car to Lexus for an oil change soon so I'll ask them to check the noise, but I wanted to gater some information here first. I hope it's related with brakes since they might blame me if it's related to suspension and it might not be covered by the full coverage warranty that is still ongoing...

The Lexus dealership has changed the brakes before selling the CPO car to me, so my guess is that they did it right...
The noise is gone now. May-be it was something stuck, IDK...
I'll ask them to check it when I'll bring it in for my oil change. Those verifications are free with the warranty I believe.

New rotors fixed the sound
I'm no mechanic but I thought I would post because my is250 was making sounds very similar to what you described. Knocking or clunking sounds from both the front two wheels as brakes were being applied. Would not happen every time, but randomly while I was out driving. I couldn't find any other forums with definitive answers so thought I would post my fix.
First, I want to say that it all started after I did a rebuild of my calipers. I made sure to recheck that all the torque specs were correct and I bled the brake lines a second time, but sound still remained. It turned out to just be the rotors. Once they were replaced the knocking sound was gone. I'm still curious to know why it was the rotors but hopefully this helps anyone with a similar issue.
