Thinking About Buying 06 Lexus IS 350 for $9500 With 143k Miles *Good or Bad Idea*
Hi guys! I'm totally new to the Lexus world but have always wanted one. So I'm thinking about buying a 2006 Lexus IS 350 with 143K miles on it. Is this a good or bad idea? Test drove and talked to the dealer today. The car drove very well, was quiet, and very fast. Please help me make the best decision. Should I still take the car to my mechanic to have it checked out? And should I request for a Carfax vehicle history report? Also, dealer let me take a pic of a code that came up on the car when he scanned it (P0456-Evaporative Emission System-Very Small Leak)
The check engine light did not come on. Is this something that I should worry about? If so, how much would it cost to fix it? What are your thoughts?
Vehicle Notes:
-Beautiful Silver and Black combination
-Black leather interior
-Power Windows and Door Locks
-Power Seats
-Power Sunroof
-Rear wheel drive
Features:
-Brand New Tires (replaced all 4, dealer has receipt of purchase)
-Fresh Paint Job
-Touchscreen Radio and Navigation
-Back-Up Camera
-Heated and Cooled Front Seats
-HID Headlights
-Gloss Black Wheels
-Fresh Mobil 1 Oil and Filter change
-Paddle Shifters
-Only 143,654 Miles
-Asking $9,500

the ref flag for me is fresh paint job..
I would get service history to make sure it was maintained well
also I would check local DMV to make sure this is not a salvaged title car. if you are buying this from a dealer then its probably a clear title. which would lead me to looking into a car fax or
have the car inspected to see why it was freshly painted.
in my experience painted car means it was either in an accident or damaged in some way. dig deeper into it. if the car was keyed then not so bad but if it was hit then there may be more then meets the eye.
good luck

I completely second the recommendation of a deeper research. Sans cosmetic issues, what is important is if there was an accident, was it repaired to the original safety specifications?
Cars of today are designed to protect the occupant, therefore certain components in the car, front and rear have to behave a certain way during an accident-impact. These components could determine the outcome of the accident, ideally the driver and passengers escape with minor injuries.
This is a critical factor in buying a used car, most specifically if there is evidence of repair.
Money can be earned, life is another matter. Spend a little and have a peace of mind.
Good luck with your quest.
