If cam phaser has an issue, cam timing may be off, causing the P0340.

Since this the brother sensor in this thread, it'll be on the other side of the engine...but will be the exact same looking sensor :

Usually a broken wire or connector. There are two silver solenoids and two black sensors on each valve cover. Bank 1 is cylinders 1, 3, 5 the left side when looking at the engine from the bumper rearward.
The intake cam sensor is mounted highest, the exhaust is lower and towards the rear middle. Inspect the plug connector and wires at the sensors which are a single 10mm bolt for each each all black sensor.
Do not confuse the silver metal solenoids with sensors.

Thanks for the helpful info, battery died on me this AM (although 2 months old), jumpstarted and runs fine but threw a CEL after jumping - had my mechanic clear it said it was Camshaft Pos. Sensor running fine now but alternator may be on its way out (reading around 13-13.3).

Batt is under warranty and I found a cheap OEM alternator. so will replace that, but this code hasn't come on again but in case it does, how many CS Pos. sensors does this things have (2013 GS AWD)? Are they the same sensors part wise? Seems an easy fix, just not sure if this was the reason the batt died today or not.

There are two cam shaft position sensors on these engines.

One sensor per cylinder bank.

Located near the front of each cylinder head.

You can see the location of the cam shaft sensors in the diagram above.

Any other work done to it recently? Usually it's during a plug swap or other repairs that something gets messed with.

IDK about the part numbers. But a Where Used with a PN should give a count of how many. That said, the sensor is rarely the problem.

Get the charging system and battery fixed before chasing this as it could be related. They do strange things when batteries die.

What’s the sensor in between the rear two ignition coils that are on the passenger side (US spec) on a 2008 is250?

It looks exactly like a camshaft position sensor for the exhaust camshaft but I am unsure…

Bank 1 exhaust cam position sensor. Shown on a 350 but it's same for both.
