Post IS250 engine oil light on

Not leaking oil but need to add 2 quarts of oil at intervals in between oil changes. Drive minimally. What's with that? 100,000 miles otherwise in excellent condition...original owner.

Your car is just burning oil. It is normal to loose a quart every 1000-3000 miles in higher mileage cars.

add a little more than whats needed when you replace just to make sure it never goes to low? maybe try slightly thicker oil?

Sorry to say it, but that SHOULD NOT be normal. I'm about to turn over 100k miles here soon and I might "burn" through a quarter quart on a 9k oil chain interval. IS350 though, but come on now...those figures are HIGH!

My 06 IS350 is also having this weird issue. I too drive it not that much (06 with only 60K miles). I'm thinking this is caused by one of the recall that I did (Crank up noise or the Springs lifters) where the seals did not get put back properly. The car does not seem to be burning oil (Don't see any Blue/Black smoke at anytime).

Not a big issue to add a 1-1.5 quart for the year, but it's just one of those weird itch I have to figure out. Maybe, I'll bring it by my regular mechanic and have him take a look. I also noticed from the Spark Plugs thread that someone was saying that one of the seals on these engine is notorious bad. Hope that is the case and I can find that seal.

Your car is burning oil, not a big deal. Read the manual and it says it normal to burn so much every 3000 miles or so. Just stay on top of it and check it every so often. When your low engine oil light comes on that means its really low so avoid that. Same thing happened on my VW at 50K. I drove the car until 160k then sold it. It still ran fine at that time so I wouldnt worry to much.

The grass is not any greener on the other side.....

Actually I read somewhere that the alarm starts going off after being low over 1 quart but if ignored it could be lower than that by the time its checked.

also, I read on Autonews several complaints of today's engines consuming too much oil (all makes).
This is certainly not a Toyota / Lexus thing. Our RX and IS's consume little to no oil but I did noticed the IS250 consumes more oil than the rest of our line up.

I say there is no danger if topped off on first warning. Using thicker oil helps slow the consumption.
I use 10/40 oil on the IS250 and it has slowed the consumption.

No big deal as I rather deal with that than "the other high maintenance" found on "other" makes.

While not ideal, its within reason.I rememer that some infiniti owners complained about q45s and m45s burning a quart every 500-1000 miles and dealers saying it was normal, but to me that seemed a bit excessive

Sometimes, engines can burn oil when the oil control rings are not spinning freely on the piston due to carbon buildup. You can knock off some of these carbon bits by driving the car aggressively.

Go in 2nd gear and stomp on it to redline and let it engine brake down to about 2-3k rpms and repeat several times.

I did this on my integra and found carbon pieces in my oil filter. I do believe my oil consumption went from 1/2 quart over 5k miles down to 1/3 quart over 5k miles.

you should have someone start the car after sitting for a day while you stand behind it and watch exhaust. a lot of toyotas have problems with valve stem seals and only throw a puff of smoke on cold start after sitting overnight
