Default Interesting starting problem my '06 IS350 - anyone had similar issues?

Background: '06 IS350 bought a few months back, 109k on the odometer, now with 113k. Alternator died on me about 100 miles in, so that was replaced with a reman from AutoZone (yes, yes, I know buying from a junkyard would've probably been better).

This issue started about a week back. Everyone knows to start the car, you press in on the brake pedal, hold the start/stop button until the engine starts, then release when the engine has started. In the past, I've given it some leeway and actually released the button and brake the instant the engine has cranked over.

However, recently for me the engine will 100% completely cut off UNLESS I hold the button AND the brake down COMPLETELY, until the tachometer shows the engine going at its idle revs. If I do not hold the button down all the way, the engine just shuts itself off. If the engine cuts off, I have to wait 3-5 seconds before attempting to start again, otherwise there is no response at all when pushing the start/stop button. This occurs pretty randomly, though I found in the last few days it's been occurring more commonly.

Frankly, I have no idea what's causing it - I've never owned a push button start car in the past, so this is new to me. OBDII pulled up no diagnostic codes, and both the dash and OBDFusion don't show a battery problem (it was replaced along with my alternator in June). My second thought would be to a bad starter, however it seems to be starting the car just fine whenever I give it a bit of time. Could this be a sign that the starter is on it's way out?

I'd love to hear feedback from other 2IS owners, as well as if this symptom has been observed by other users. Thanks in advance!

Well I'll be honest and say that I'm not 100 % sure what's up with your car not starting. But I'm mainly just wondering why you hold the start button to start the car? You say everyone know's that your supposed to hold it down but yet I've never heard nor seen anyone do that lol. Maybe that's the problem??

In my case I just hold the brake and press and release the button.

The problem is if I don't hold it, the engine shuts off.

That may be true , but what I was implying is that maybe this issue arose because you kept holding the button?? I mean don't take my word for it , it's just a guess.

Perhaps the actual start button is becoming faulty? I simply depress the brake pedal and tap the start button once, and my car fires right up. No having to hold down the start button at all.

Check to see if your VIN falls in the affected range for this TSB.

It worked perfectly and fixed the issue, even though it was a different part number and TLS advised against it. No need to take the switch apart, just plug 'n play!

agreed, possible loss of electrical current.
