Default Transmission Fluid Service

Hey guys,

i have a 07 is250, and ive been getting mixed information from two dealerships over in dallas. I called sewell and they said that they do not recommend the transmisson service at all, but then i called park place lexus in plano and they recommended it at 100k and im at 130k at the moment. Can anyone directed me to the right information of what i should do? i want to take care of my car, and prolong the life of my transmission as long as i can! Park place quoted me at 172$ out the door, and they said they will drain and refill, thats it. Any opinions guys?

It's never a bad idea to change the transmission fluid after a lot of mileage. Some dealers have a special machine (different than standard transmission flush machines) that can evacuate and replace most of the fluid, others will just drain and fill as much as comes out.

It's your call if you want to do it. One member got their fluid tested at fairly high mileage and it was still good.

Lexus said it is a lifetime fluid, however you know there is nothing lifetime in the world and they do deteriorate over time yet it still works fine. 2006 has been out for 9 years and so far we haven't heard about massive transmission failure due to fluid, so I guess most likely you will be ok if you don't change it.

The problem with changing it is you can only change so little of it due to the small sump vs the rest of the fluid in the transmission. BG has a flush machine that will cycle through the whole system to flush things out, but if you are concerned about flush you can always do pan drop / drain / fill once in a while to replace just a fraction of the fluid.

I personally would start doing the drain / fill at around 100k miles, and then every 30-40k I'd drain and fill and call it a day. Yes it will still have a lot of old fluid there, but the partial change means the fluid at least have some new additive in there to replace the drain out fluid (and some wear particles get drained out with the old fluid at the same time). It would be less wasteful (in fluid, not in time) than doing 3-4 drain and fill back to back on the same day.

If you do go with the offer from Park Place, ask for specifics on how they'll specifically perform the "flush" on your sealed trans.

Default Transmission Fluid Service

All they said they would do is to drain as much as they can and refill, and only do it once the advisor said because he didn't want to waste my money and oil doing a drain and refill several times till it's all new oil in the system. So what do you guys think should I go for it? I'm at 130k miles right now

My car (07 is250 awd 165k kms) started to hesitate/hiccups when accelerate. My mechanic told me to do the transmission flush from LEXUS since no one else has that specific machine. I did it two days back they charged me CAD139. it took around an hour.
No more problem so far I can feel the difference, very smooth shift.

I read it somewhere in other forums that it is recommended if you're running 160k kms or 100k miles.

Default Transmission Fluid Service

Bumping this thread, got my car back this morning, and never really had a transmission problem to begin with but she drives just as well when I picked her up this morning. Hopefully this will put off any future transmission problems that could arise with old transmission fluid in the running in the car.

You can drain and fill yourself. It's pretty simple. Will take about 3 quart.
