Question Car Vibration Over 40 MPH

Every month or so I get a heavy vibration throughout the car when I go over 40 MPH. The entire car feels like it's shaking. I pull over, turn car off and wait a couple of minutes then start the car up again and the vibration goes away. Any ideas what this could be? I do know I have a torn axle boot but am planning to trade the car in by end of month and was told the expense to fix will not change my trade in value so why bother. Am curious though why this vibration may be happening.

Well, if you have no grease in your CV boot there, it could cause issues like this.

Have you checked all of your lug nuts to ensure they're torqued correctly?

Yes...all lug nuts are torqued to spec (per the tire place. I got new tires about 8 weeks ago - after the vibration started happening).

My mechanic told me that there was still some grease left and if I was going t trade in soon not to worry about it. Attached is a pic I took last week.

Ha, nice pic of the guy in the back.

I would say there's a good chance that's your issue right there.

Well, CV issues usually take a good amount of time to occur without grease. But that's usually for small leaks; that leak is LARGE by what I can tell. Guessing you've driven it in the rain like that.

Yup, definetly driven in rain. IIRC it rained the day before that pic was taken.
