That's what I did. I just said dealer at first but I meant my dad dealership that he works at. He got an alternator at his price for me and I paid him to install it for me. Yeah, unfortunately I didn't have any signs that my battery was going bad and it was only two years old with a 3 year warranty but I didn't have the receipt to get a free replacement so had to buy one. I think I ruined the battery by driving the car with a busted alternator but oh well, now I know they are both brand new and should last me a few years.

Exclamation Bad alternator

Hi everyone,

I have an 06 Lexus IS 350, the alternator went bad last week. (Got it tested at O'Reillys). Bought a new alternator, and my brother and I replaced the old one and also put on a new serpentine belt.

My brother is not a certified mechanic but very handy, and has replaced alternators before.

Anyway, once we had replaced it the, car would not start. Just could hear a click click sound from the starter and the other electrical parts would turn with several lights on '(Check engine., battery etc.).

We replaced the battery as well, presuming the bad alternator had just destroyed the battery, but that did not help either.

We are pretty sure we put the alternator and belt in correctly, so it makes no sense that the car would not start, but....right now we are at our wit's end.

Does anyone have any insight into what is causing this problem? Or has anyone had a similar issue? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Maybe your new alternator is seized, try taking the belt off. or maybe you ran the belt in the wrong way somehow.
