Default 2007 Lexus IS350 Engine Cover Mod

What's up guys! Long time follower of CL and finally decided to post about a modification I am doing to my stock engine cover. I work as a automotive body tech and I recently modifyed a fellow employees engine cover on his Ford sport trac. So it gave me the idea to do mine. I am going to fill the three horizontal lines on each side and the two outside vertical lines running down the engine cover. I will be using a structural body panel adhesive to fill the lines and will sand flat and smooth. I am also going to sand the V6 off but leave the Lexus emblem. The cross stitched pattern up top is getting painted silver body color. The rest will go gloss graphite, same color as my wheels. Hopefully you all get a vague picture of what I am doing. I'll be post pictures in the coming days of my progress.

Sounds like it'll look much better after. Post pics of the process if you can.

Can't wait to see the finished product! But as Gville350 said, include some pix as you go along...

sanded with 80 grit then 180 grit, ready for filler.

This is the adhesive I used.

I used a two part ridged plastic epoxy made by urethane supply company, for my final skim coat.

ready for primer!

Thanks fellas! I'd love to get this thing painted tomorrow but our paint shop has been pretty busy. So hopefully early next week it'll be finished. What do yall think about the color scheme? Have had a couple guys at work give me some opinions, but there a little different than my idea. Thanks in advance!

You know what, if you removed the oil cap port altogether and sealed it to look symmetrical with the other side, you'd have one hell of a piece there! Heck, it take 5 seconds to pop off the engine cover anyways; cover it up for a more streamlined look! Just my $.02

Man that is a good idea! I was wondering how I could have filled that hole. I probably could have plastic welded a piece in and did it that way. If it wasn't getting painted right now i probably would have done that. Maybe if I ever get bored and want to redo it one day I will.
