Default Wife drove over a small pothole and the damage was $10,153. Lexus IS 250 please look

I am new here but I had an IS250 2010. My wife ran over a small pothole at approx 40-45 mph. It rose the shock tower 3 mm and dented the roof in 2 places at the sunroof. the WHOLE CAR BUCKLED... THE CAR WAS ALMOST CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS...

This is where it gets good. I took it to Sewell Lexus and the adjuster said I can almost quote this from memory. He said in one month they almost had 40 cars do the same thing. He stated "YOU CAN NEVER HIT A BUMP IN A SECOND GENERATION IS AS THERE IS A STRUCTURAL ISSUE THAT CAUSES THIS." My insurance adjuster stated the exact same thing Now my wife has a collision on her insurance and SHE HIT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

BOTTOM LINE, LEXUS FLAWED THE DESIGN IN THESE CARS. I HAVE SEEN THE ROOF DENT THREADS. I AM CURRENTLY TRYING TO WORK SOMETHING OUT WITH LEXUS CUSTOMER CARE. HAS ANYONE ELSE SHARED MY SAME EXPERIENCE???

Now i run an auto repair shop in dallas. One of my customers came in today with her 2008 IS250. She has the IDENTICAL damage my wife's car had. She said she got it after going down a bumpy gravel road...

We sold the car 3 days later, after getting it back. WHEN THE BODY SHOP MANAGER OF SEWELL LEXUS TELLS YOU IF YOU HIT A 2X4 ON THE ROAD, IT'LL COST YOU $10K, IT IS TIME TO NEVER BUY A LEXUS AGAIN... we have since purchased a BMW...

Here are pics of my wife's car

Here are pics of my customer's car with identical damage

I can't believe this happens. There's a thread about this from a couple of years ago with 10+ people having the same issue.

Some cars (range of VIN) might have had a robotic welder that must have been "dead".

Can't blanket statement Lexus over this unfortunate issue. Clearly the 2IS has a serious structural issue. This is unheard of for Toyota products but something went wrong here.

Certainly you are aware Lexus has the longest track record of being the most well built reliable cars.

You should also prepare to spend more on your BMW than even your [wife's] IS. At least insurance covered this, but insurance won't cover everything that breaks after warranty ends.

I totally agree with You as I am an automotive technician and run my own shop. Lexus is top notch in quality.

What is the sad part is that she cannot hit a bump without self destructing.

As for the bmw, I specialize in those vehicles and have all the equipment to service them. They break more often but at least they Can hit a bump and keep going. I think the IS is a nicer car and wish we could have kept it. What is sad is we were going to trade it in next month for a brand new GS or RX. Sad that won't happen because we can no longer trust the brand.

I found that thread after the body shop informed us of this issue. All it took was one Google search and a whole bunch of hits came up.

I just wanted people to be aware that this is the cause of the roof dents.

That's crazy ... knocking on wood cause CA has potholes that have been around longer than some of the members here including myself. They are damn near historical landmarks. If we could only Google map the payouts per pothole.

Sadly it is a chargeable point but in this case well worth taking the hit.

This is unbelievable. Does this go for IS350 also? Or 2IS in general?

I'm not surprised if 2IS is built like it's made of tin foil.

The 3GS seems pretty flimsy as well.
