A little disappointed with the resale-ability of my 2011 IS 350 AWD. Its been posted for sale in multiple sites to include Autotrader and Craigslist and it is tough finding a buyer thats not trying to lowball me.

When I bought the car I didn't imagine it would be this difficult especially coming out a Mazda 3 that flew out of my hands once I put it on the market. Its a Lexus for goodness sake....maybe not the latest Gen but still a great buy.

Talked with the Lexus dealer here when I bought my wife's RX and according to them they're having a hard time moving 2nd Gen IS's from the lot.

Any tips?

Hey, I'm Kinda in the same situation as you. I have an 06is350 for sale and I have been able to get some offers I like. Sorry to hear you aren't getting any offers close to your asking price.


Here are some reasons why it might not be selling?


1)How well do other AWD models sell in your area?
2) for the price you are asking, what are the other options the buyer can get?
3) vehicle history?

You didn't say anything about how you set your asking price. Are you at or near the Edmunds private party price for a vehicle with your options, mileage and condition?

Generally if something isn't getting interest, there at least one of two issues, your ad needs work or/and your priced too high.

I would say that as well. Shop the market you are in to get idea of what pricing should be. Also are you around the same price as KBB and NADA pricing?

I think the car is advertised well with plenty of pictures. For the most part its stock with the exception of an F-Sport lower grill, Huper Optik Tint (which I enjoy) and some yellow fogs. Similar cars in my area are advertised for around 28K and I'm listed at 25.5. This is also 2K below KBB. The car has 49K miles on it and looks "brand new" inside and out.

I never considered the AWD being the problem but maybe this could be the delay.

It is past the prime-time for AWD models. You might want to consider holding onto it until nearing fall/winter again to get the largest market.

the awd is definitely gonna make it harder to sell. a lot of people avoid awd in areas where its not needed simply because there is more stuff to breakdown but i couldn't imagine there isn't anybody out there that would eventually pick it up. i definitely wouldn't lower your price until after the fall season/beginning of winter if you can hod it for that long

I guess I could see that thought process in terms of future maintenance but we actually sought the AWD version as a just in case it comes in handy (I know, tires mean a lot). In fact, we didn't even consider the RWD version of my wife's RX. I did notice that in AZ it seems to have a higher value than in VA which was kinda strange. Guess its a bit of a novelty there.

The car is actually listed on this website's marketplace. I didn't want to post the details of it on this forum in case it violates some sort of forum rules but I should be safe with a link. Tell me what you think.

All wheel drive cars will have more maintenance like for the tires and if things break. Also if someone wants all wheel drive they are probably looking for car companies that specialize in all wheel drive cars. Many probably want the rwd since it is faster and lighter.

I agree that potential buyers could have that point of view.

So far with this car, there hasn't been any additional maintenance beyond what's scheduled and nothing specific to AWD system through the 49000 miles I've owned it. I would think that the tires would last longer since you're able to fully rotate because they're all the same size. I did have to change my tires out early because I was lucky enough to get a gigantic bolt to run through the sidewall and I didn't want mismatched tires.

I could see enthusiast not wanting AWD because of the limited suspension/tire upgrades and the hump in the drivers compartment that you totally get used to. Also, the gas mileage hit on this car is a 1 MPG difference from RWD if I remember correctly.
