Is it worth it for extended warranty insurance for my car?
A lexus dealer told me is that my car warranty from the factory is about to expire in december. My car is almost hit 50k miles. I want to keep the car for at least another 5 - 8 years from now. Is it worth it to buy an extended warranty from the lexus dealer which will cover almost everything.. except the brakes, tires or accident... and it will cost $2,780 .. Warranty is up to 150k mile or 5 years whatever comes first.. i have is250 2010 Thanks

Are you sure it is 150k and 5 ADDITIONAL years and they are selling it to you right before the expiration of your default factory warranty. Is this too good to be true?
I bought 100k/7 years extended warranty in the year I bought my car but I never heard the 150k/5 additional year terms. I think they mean 125k/3 years or something.
Anyways, do it for the peace of mind but make sure you check the contract first.

It depends. Are you good at fixing cars or breaking cars?
I have a friend who blew a manual transmission at 90k miles, most likely due to mis shift. I personally have good luck with minimal problems on my cars all the way up to 200k miles.
However, remember that $2700 is enough money for a transmission rebuild or 2 head gasket jobs on a 4 cylinder engine (so that's probably more than enough to rebuild a V6 engine), so if you just save the money and pay it out of pocket in the worst case, you will likely be ahead of the curve if you do not buy the warranty.

Well, the only real big ticket item with the IS250 is the carbon buildup problem, which would cost you way more than $2800 to fix! I would try to spread out the miles/years a little more evenly - sounds like you drive it around 10k per year. You can get other warranty durations - here are those available while your car is still under warranty:
Time Total Vehicle Mileage
3 years 80,000 miles
6 years up to 125,000 miles
4 years up to 125,000 miles
7 years up to 125,000 miles
5 years up to 125,000 miles
8 years up to 125,000 miles
Just be sure to get the Lexus Extra Care Platinum Vehicle Service Agreement (not a 3rd party extended warranty).
Oh, and he's not doing you any favors on pricing. Search this site for Toby Rivers or Troy Dietrich, who will sell you one much cheaper than that.

I agree with sktn77a...If you decide to purchase only get a Lexus factory extended warranty, not a 3rd party one. You need to shop around because you should be able to get one for less than what you were quoted. I forgot the company's name and contact person that sells factory warranties at great prices. Maybe someone can chime in.
