Default Has anybody replaced a starter on an IS350?

My starter went out and it needs to be replaced. I lifted the car and saw that it was on the drivers side under the exhaust manifold.

Does the manifold have to come off in order to get it out? Any tips or tricks on replacing it?

Thanks

Ok I just finished replacing my starter. You have to completely remove the drivers side manifold and part of the steering rack. The steering rack is easy, don't be intimidated by it. It took me about 3 hours. I just followed the instructions posted on how to install headers. Its the same concept.

Interesting, I haven't heard of many people needing to replace the starter.

Glad you got it all sorted out.

Did you go with a reman unit or what? Care to share what the cost was on that "new" starter?

When doing the LCAB swap I snapped a pic. Sure is snug to the engine mount but it seems like it would clear the manifold/header if you can free the wires so they move enough to allow it to drop and disconnect them.
If not, manifold/header it is...

That is a snug fit. Try removing the drain bolt from the AWD front diff. It's a Pita! I'll have to see how much room I have to remove the starter. Once I rotate tires next oil change.

A word of caution; if you intend to unbolt and disconnect the steering shaft from R&P, run the seat belt through the steering wheel spoke FIRST!

The reason being is that if the wheel is spun inadvertently (or intentionally), you damage the clock spring connecting the steering column to the steering wheel. At the very least assembling it off one full turn could strain the spring and break it. Then you're a bunch of $money$!

DO NOT SPIN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE THE R&P IS DISCONNECTED!
