questions for those who have replaced hi beams with hid
I've got HID low beams, so my DRL are from the hi-beams at lower intensity (9v vs 12v, I believe).
I'm considering HID Hi beams for the better brightness and color match, but I'm wondering what happens to the DRL?
Do you wind up with DRL, using the hi beam at full strength?
Do you need to do "something" with drl, like a led kit?
In Canada, drl are a requirement, so I can't just disconnect. Furthermore, I actually think it is a good idea, so I don't really want to just turn them off.
Do you get warnings that the drl are not working properly?
The only option I can think of is to just run the car with the lights on all the time. Which isn't that bad a solution I suppose, but I'm wondering if there are other alternatives?
I suppose I could look at the wiring diagrams and see if there is a way to run the low beam as drl (at full strength) with the tail lights off.
Another question. Since the HID kits are 35W and the halogen hi is 65W, do you get a warning that something is wrong when the hi-beams are on? Do you need a capacitor in there to alleviate that problem (provided it actually is a problem).
I may just look for a higher temp halogen for high and drl, but from what I have read, even a 5k halogen doesn't seem to match the low very well. Especially not when running as drl.
In case you are wondering, I have looked at other threads. Either it isn't mentioned, or people are disabling drl or the kit is for lows or something. Not that this hasn't already been answered, I just haven't been able to find it.
Also, while I might consider an led strip for dRL in addition to the high beam hid, I'm not interested in one of 9005 lamps with leds that would replace both high and drl. There isn't enough light from them and they are pretty useless as a high beam.
Thx
