You're correct. But low tire pressure causes the inner and outer edges to wear fast. High tire pressure will cause the center of the tire to wear fast. You just gotta find a middle ground. Also, if these are not the OEM tires, they may need a different pressure than what's listed in the manual or door jam.
I'm guessing the problem is the alignment as well as the pressure.
One way to determine if the tires are inflated at the proper pressure is to draw a line of chalk across the tread, drive maybe a block, and see if the line fades evenly.

what would you guys recommend 225/40 or 235/40 for the front? I have 225/40 bridgestone el400s, road noise is terrible and the low profile doesn't help at all on bumps. 235/40 is a bit taller. im also considering 225/45 but im thinking they may be a bit too narrow. any thoughts? getting the continental DWS btw.

If I had to make a guess, you are using a tire pressure that is not proper.
With most modern vehicles, the tire pressure found on the inside driver door jamb is generally a pretty good pressure to use.
The Continental Extreme Contact DWS has a very good history of being a great performance all season tire. I would recommend factory size, and factory tire pressure.

not if all the tires are low at the same time. The TPMS works by finding a tire thats not like the others by detecting differences in wheel rotations. However if all tires get low together then none of them stand out. When the TPMS comes on you dont know which tire it is, so you have to check them all. 3IS TPMS at least tells you an actual pressure, its nicer
