Default Frozen Nav Screen (newb)

Hello. New to the Lexus scene. Made a jump from an '03 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro to an '06 IS350 Crystal White with 109k miles. I'm loving the past couple of weeks of having this car. But just this morning I faced the dreaded and unwanted frozen Nav screen. ARGHHH! Anyhow, just wanted to get an idea on what others have done to deal with this issue. I hope this isn't an indicator of how owning this car would be. TIA.

Details needed about the specifics; does it freeze on the Lexus entry logo? Do you usage of the button around the screen itself?

It goes past the Lexus entry logo. The buttons surrounding the screen work fine. It's really my only way of controlling the audio and a/c (auto mode only). It's when I try to push the radio presets, a/c fan speed, sound controls, and such is where it does not work.

Seen that. Did you go fixing the wiring route or replacing just the screen?

Sounds like the digitizer needs to be replaced.

Just follow the DIY on here, also the video is on youtube. I fixed mine a couple months ago. Hardest part was removing air vents haha.

Ok. You're referring to this I'm assuming; http://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-LEXUS-IS200-IS220-IS250-IS300-IS350-NAVIGATION-LCD-DISPLAY-TOUCH-SCREEN-/221405873862?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item338cd186c6.

Seen that just last night. I think the owner went and did the rewiring/"resoldering" route. I'm debating whether to replace the entire screen (digitizer?) or rewire... I'm guessing rewiring would cost much less than replacing the whole screen, but it would be more tedious.

My question is, which fix would be more permanent or last longer: rewire or screen replacement?

Thanks for the replies so far. Audizine forum has helped me through A LOT of issues with my A4. I get the sense that members in this community would be just as helpful. I appreciate you chiming in to help out a 2IS newbie.

Ok. You're referring to this I'm assuming;
No, that is a touch screen. Search for

7.3'' Touch Screen Digitizer Panel Replacement

on ebay. They are $30-$50 or so. I'm not saying that will fix your problem, but that is a digitizer. You may need to buy a new touch screen, but I'd start with the diy fix, then try the digitizer, then the touch screen. Unless you are in a hurry and can't wait for the shipping, or don't want to take apart the dash 3 times, then just try the touch screen, but even that isn't guaranteed to work. But I think Gville350 is correct in that it is the digitizer. The diy fix is to fix the digitizer. My fix has lasted a few months now with no problem. I know if mine has problems again, I'll just buy a new digitizer.

Got it. I found out little more about the difference between the 2. I think I will resolve to replacing the digitizer. It just seems to be more of a durable fix. Now, for those that replaced the digitizer, I noticed some peeled off their old one, then adhere the new replacement. Then there are those that kept the old one intact, and adhered the new one over the old one. Which way is best?

If you don't want to have to go through the process of the old digitizer removal and new install, you can just get a new screen like what you posted above (except look for a cheaper one; that one is double than the one I got). The new screen already have the new digitizer on it.
