Hey CL! For the past 3 years I've had a rep cf wald spoiler but within the past few months the clear coat has been turning slightly yellow and chipping off. What I would like to do is have the spoiler painted sgm but have it painted so that the cf weave is visible through the paint like you see on some show cars. I don't want the whole whole spoiler's weave to be exposed but rather just the top part. Do you all think that this would look good? I've never seen someone with a 2IS do this to their wald spoiler before and I do like being unique. The shop that I would be taking it to is very good and the owner said he would only charge $100 for the paint work. Any input would be greatly appreciated, as well as photos that you may have. Sorry I dont have any photos right now.
My friend had this done on his G35 sedan....so I know exactly what you are talking about. I think it would look great! I'm not a fan of big cf pieces so I think the subtleness will really look perfect.
I believe it was PaPaHoFF who did this on his trunk setup before he parted out. Search away... I think there was only one or two pictures of it ever posted (by him at least).
The fading and yellowing is typical of carbon parts unless you put extra clear when new. I like your idea and have seen "ghosting" on my buddies IS300 with custom paint on his cf hood. I think it'll look good. Might as well get a cf roof spoiler if you don't already have one so it can match. How's the fitment. See if he can fit the spoiler on good too while its at the shop. I think sgm looks best woth cf cf also so itll look good. Good luck.
Not sure but my guy is charging $100. He's the owner of midnight garage in El Monte, ca. Many of my friends have gone to him and his work is top notch. He's also doing a widebody on my friends s2k
